It looks like a 1970 AMC Javelin. See it even has the same hood scoop

yes I have tosay that the '71 Torino does resemble the maverick. But only where the rear quater panel starts at the door, and continues up to the smal lvent window The "b"pillars do look alike from the pics iv seen. What are you gitting at? Do you think all maver's could use tha e panels from thoes cars?

I will have to look it up but I think it is a singing mermaid.. I think I first heard of them in the book "The Odyssey".

Looked it up. No such word with clarity. "Siren" is the word that I was thinking of and it's not necessarely a mermaid.. But I think it was in the book..

The only thing I do NOT like about the Maverick is that line that goes up over the fenders, down the side of the car, and over the back tire. Too rigid, too angular, something. It just doesn't feel right.

I have thought about pounding that down to either a rounded bump, or flattening it out altogether.

BUT!!! If you look at the more modern trucks and most of the cars, that same damned line is there!

Not sure where it came from, but it still exists in many Ford models.

Scoop...That character line is there to stiffen the sheet metal skin of the car and add some "character"

The Sirens were indeed in the Odyssey. They were creatures (generally thought of as female but can't remember is the poem specifically says they are female...) whose song would drive men mad to the point of committing suicide by sailing their ship onto the rocky shores of the Sirens' island. Odysseus had his crew tie him to the mast of his ship then stopped their ears with ... something (wax maybe?) so he could hear their song but his men could not and so they sailed past the island.

while I can see some Chevelle in the hind quarters.. I just don't see much Duster in there at all. Far too square and the pillars are totally different too.

Then again.. if you look hard enough?.. and as maentioned earlier.. many cars look the same from a particular era. It's usually the ones that strayed from the cookie cutter tendencies of the designers(many of whom had their hands tied and were turned into conformists).. that broke the boundaries and pushed us forward.

IMO, the tail of this car is a lopped off "squashed" Torino and is exactly the reason that I've always liked it.. and finally bought one. Now, if I could do a scaled down version of the Torino's front end with some slimmed down and shortened hidaways?.. I'd be in magazines and touring the show circuit with such a car.

    Never hurts to dream. :)

That is my focus also. How to blend or shape it. That is what I meant when I said that I want to rethink my Build. The Torinos dont have that Bump. Ive been looking at the Car Craft spread on Tom Hackmans car. He did a good job on that bump. Got me thinkin.
