Hey guys I went to go for a little drive yesterday but that turned sour quickly when my car wouldn`t shift out of first gear. I can manualy shift to 2nd but when I try for 3rd it acts like it goes into neutral . My modulator isn`t leaking and the vacume line it hooked up. Could the governor cause the problem , how do I check it ?

    Thanks,

    Elliot.

Yup you went there. Fluid is up where it belongs and is not burnt.

So does the tranny shift if you slowly put on the gas? towards the end of my old c4s life it had trouble shifting out of first when it was cold, i just usually slowly increased the gas and gave it a little time to engage. valve body sicking perhaps?
    Just throwing it out there.

I would check the modulator vacuum hose near the back of the engine, Mine always likes to burn up or rot. Could the kick down linkage possibly be stuck? If everything else is fine I would drain some of the fluid and put Lucas Stop Slip in there. I use it all the time and it does wonders to old transmissions.:burnout:

I'll be scrapping the C4 from my 76 very soon.

I am swapping the drivetrain from my 73, which is all completely rebuilt.

The 76 has 80,000 miles, if you want the tranny, let me know.

I would give it to you for the cost of shipping.

    Jim P.

BTW- it's a 250, so the bell housing bolt pattern is the same for the SBF.

Yea I was already kinda thinking that .

As already stated the modulator is good as is the line that goes to it .

1973Ford, I realy appreciate you`r offer but I`m pretty sure my tranny is fixable and if not I`ll probably get a new one from broader performance.
