So my passenger upper control arm bushings squeak with every little bump. I ordered the MOOG kit from OReilly's to replace the rod and use rubber bushings. The kit is supposed to be in this afternoon, so I'm in the process of taking the old one out now. My question is, are both bushings right hand threads, or is the bushing towards the back reverse thread? I bought a big 1 1/4" wrench to loosen them with and I've got the front one loose. Should I start turning the opposite way on the back one, or continue to work towards a hernia? The upper control arm is still on the car to aid as a vise.
Really doesn't matter...the threads are going to break off once you start turning it, I think they are righthand threads
I sure hope the spring is out.. I have been able to loosen them in the car but that was about it.. Right hand threads..
You might look real close at the ends. When I replaced mine I tacked them with my welder. Never know if someone has done that to yours.. Going rubber next go around on mine..
Thanks for all of your help! The shaft kit didn't come in today, so I will continue with it tomorrow. Oh yeah, the spring was definitely out! Those things make me nervous.
Might consider applying some Sil Glide to the rubber surfaces and the washers for the bushings. Help them not squeek and glide smoothly..
A whole new arm with ball joint is almost as cheap as the bushing kit. And you don't have to fight them plus you get a new ball joint
Spray them with PB Blaster tonight that should make things easier tommorow. Which brand and part number shaft kit did you order?
I ended up getting a kit on eBay from someone else that didn't do their disc swap. But rockauto.com has great prices and there is a 5% off code on retailmenot.com
I got both upper control arms with new bushings and ball joints for $135 shipped from ebay I did it just to replace everything that couldve or would been breaking down in the near future
