Are you using the 351w/5.0 13726548 firing order or the older 302 15426378? If it a "302" cam you'll need to use the 15426378 firing order.

Did you try having some one crank it while you advance or retard the timing? Can you turn the engine over freely by hand? Have you had this engine running before?

Once you verify that the engines crank can be spun with a breaker bar/ratchet through 360 deg of rotation...You need to verify your distributor is installed properly...#1 cyl on compression stroke at TDC, rotor pointing to #1 terminal on dist cap...Outside of that, be certain your battery is fully charged and the battery cables properly secured/mounted at the starter/battery...New engines sometimes are tight and dont like to turn over and will require a good strong battery to kick em off. If you cant manually spin the engine Something is jammed/broken...Flex plate/converter clearance issues seem to be a primary source for such problems. Good luck!!!

John, you cay that everything is where it should be when #1 is at TDC but is it possible you have your firing order on the cap backwards? Wrong rotation?

Glad you found your way back to the forum :thumbs2:

Do you have a vaccuum gauge? Put this in the number 1 cylinder spark plug port, Then crank the engine over till you get comprssion on this cylinder . This is top dead center. The timing mark should be at 0 degrees on the pointer. Check your marks on the timing chain now. This is what i do all the time rebuilding engines. I hope I helped you.

disable the spark. leave the coil wire off or unplug the distributor. how well does it crank that way?
