I have a 73 Maverick that was 6 cyl many years ago. Why is the cross member below the engine not there. It did make it easier to remove the oil pan, but I think I should be worried that it is not there. So far all the Mavericks I have seen have this peice, but mine does not even look like it has a place to bolt one up. Any screams of horror or heart attacks from laughter will help..:slap:

6 cyl cars did not come with the cross member only the factory V8 cars. All cars had the holes for them though.

I guess I need to be clearer...Should I find one to put on. This is not a race car by any means, but I am building it up some..

IF you swapped in a V8, you should have installed the lower brace. It stiffens up the whole front end.

I ran a V8 in mine for over 20 years without one. I agree it does stiffen the front end up.

Same here. I swapped in a V8 and drove it for almost 30 years before I even knew there was a bottom brace. Still don't have one. I've heard some people say it makes a difference, others say it doesn't. Maybe someday I'll have to find out for myself.
