The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Didn't know what area to put this in, but seeing as it can affect Maverick/Comet owners I decided to post it here.

I'm going to be emailing them a letter with the same information to see what response I get.

My Gripe is this, there's a company called CX Racing that sells knock off parts. In the Sport Compact world everyone knows this, but in the Hot Rodding world it's not general knowledge at all.

I just like cars in general so I'm into both groups. The thing that has been ticking me off is that for the past 2-3 years these magazine have been passing off CX Racing turbos like they're a name brand, when their turbos are just Chinese knock offs of name brand turbos.(mainly Garretts and Holsets)

Check out their turbo page and In the specs you will not see a brand listed at all, not even their house name.

    http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CXR&Category_Code=TOCH

The thing is I don't understand why these magazines push these turbos, when you can get a name brand turbo for the same price. Master Power and Precisions entry level units are in the same ball park as these knock offs.

It just doesn't make sense to me. I could understand if they were using the large turbos like 78-90mm(because those can get expensive) but they're not.

And to make matters worse CX has been raising their prices now just because of all the magazine hype. I have no problem with someone running a Chinese turbo on their car, but don't buy it from CX racing when you can get the same thing from ebay for half the price. And it will be the same darn turbo coming from the same darn factory.

It's not one article it's almost every single one, I know they get free products to try out and get paid to do also.

I wouldn't compare it to the adult film industry at all since it's quite the opposite. The company would be the thespian and the magazine would be the film company. If it were like that the actor would be paying the film company to be in their film.

Where's it's the opposite, they hire the actors to sell their film. So that would the magazine paying the company to showcase their products to sell the magazines.

Nothing wrong with Super Chevy. Good packing material.:biglaugh:

Do you really think any of the magazines care what they put out as long as the money is coming in?

Well the I know the magazine company doesn't care. But the writers/editors should (at least in my mind), it was something I wanted to do as a career be a Johnny Hunkins or a Wally Parks.

I picture it being sorta like the Dr's office. At the Dr, a well dressed lady with a suitcase shows up, goes in the back, and unloads sample meds for the doc to hand out and get patients on the product.
But I can see a Asian chick, in six inch heels driving up to Source Interlinc's office with a trunk full of cheap turbos, and stocking the parts shelves, again to get people addicted, and sell more product.

Of course, it may simply be that since China owned most of our $15000000000000 (think I got enough zeros) in debt, the mags are just trying to play nice with the new owners.

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P

bottom line is advertising supports magazines. what you call good turbo companies don't spend jack! no one pays for stories directly but expect stories from companies that do support what you read. everyone always expects free edit but never give back in return. do you expect people to write for free? thing about it? why do you think all these internet "magazines" come and go? cuz they write all these stories about stuff but never get anything in return therefore they just stop and shut down.

trust me magazines don't make money from a $19.95 subscription if you even paid that. after printing and postage cost you lose money. editors will word things they way they are and not make up stories but they will write about it good or bad. read it carefully you will see it the if and or butts in the story if they really don't like it. anyone can take it the way they want too. people whom sell on ebay don't support the magazine why should they write about it. bottom line is nothing is for free remember someone is paying for it! ;)

gee i haven't seen any Asian chick in six inch heels to my office. gee must be working in the wrong office. lol!
