I would think that the upper control arm is now bent or the bolts were loose. I'm thinking the bolts were not loose.

the tech says that I overtightened the bolt. There is a "crush" washer apparently there and even turning it one extra turn will make the center bolt break? at least that's his explanation...I'm willing to give it another shot. And if not .... I'm gonna go to town on them to get the right thing sent to me.

You would think that over tightening them would strip out the treads, since the center inner bolt is steel and it's going into aluminum.....

So finaaaaally we had a chance to change the parts out that were sent to us, no reason why we put it off so long but I really wanted to make sure Bryant was there to do it since last time I was the one who did it.

Doesn't that look terrible and scary? The other side was worse but I didn't take a pic, forgot.

We unbolted the coilovers from the UCA and undid the nuts from the top and it came out really easily. We tried putting it together on the car but it was hard.

Here are the new instructions by the way, I made sure that Bryant looked at these.

    So, unbolted the bottom:

    So look what came out....

this was our attempt at doing it on the car....

ended just having to undo the top and the whole coilover came out really nicely...

So, we placed the unit on the vice grips, put the lower part in....THIS time, the company had already locktited the allen set screw in place and we didn't have to chase the threads...we turned the other half until it touched the crush washer....from there it says NOT to turn more than 1/2 turn....which I didn't do even last time.... anyways, so we ended up turning it about 1/8th or a 1/6th of a turn to have the ears line up ....

So we got one side done....put it back on the car, tightened the bolts up and good to go....

We go to do the driver's side and in order for the ears to to touch each other at the crush washer the ears were ALMOST lined up but problem was in order to get them to line up exactly we would have to turn one ear almost a full turn....so instead we just backed it out...we'll see how it turns out...

Nick at varishock has been REALLY easy to communicate with online by email. So I will send him a copy of all this and see what he thinks.

Bryant gives a good explanation of why we decided to back the ear out instead of tighten at that point....
