I'm converting my car to multiport injection with my new engine I'm collecting parts for. I need to know what the hp limit is for a stock 5.0 fuel rail is. I'm hoping to make 550fwhp unsure if the stock rail will be enough. I would like to get an aftermarket rail but they're expensive and need to save $$ somewhere.

I would imagine that with sufficient pressure the stock rail would support 550 hp, but at the wheels (not fwhp, rwhp since our cars are rear wheel drive) the engine would have to be producing significantly more, and I recall that someone said our 5.0 blocks only support about 500hp before they crack.

At 550HP I would go after market fuel rales along with some larger lives all way back to the tank. From what I have gathered from racers I know that the stock rails are really good to 400HP

You will be fine as long as you have a suffeciant fuel pump.

I read it as Fly Wheel Horse Power...but flywheel is one word. Now I'm confused

I've always heard they crack around 600hp, but I'm gonna try for 550 and keep it below 6000rpm. I was also referring to flywheel hp, I dont believe in building front wheel drive cars too. My old man would kick my a$$ if I did lol.
I'm going to be using -6AN fuel line.
I'm looking at a walbro 255lph pump, but haven't decided yet may look for something better.
Yes I was talking about flywheel, every performance book I have ever read has used the term fwhp for flywheel hp.

We used to upgrade the rails for anything over 400hp when calculating for turbo or supercharger fuel flow. Then inlet for the factory rail(the ID of the spring lock coupler) is around 1/4". I personally would upgrade them to be on the safe side. Shop around, there are pretty good deals on those every now and then.

Id look at the gs340 walbro or the 255 forced induction pump, the 044 bosch pumps get used also.

Aeromotive is making some nice drop in stuff also

Always overkill your fuel system on forced induction but i think the stock rails will take you to block killing territory jmho

Thanks for the suggestions, as of last night I decided I'm gonna save for a dart block so I can eventually make 600rwhp but need to do some suspension and chassis work first.

a friend of mine got the fuel rails off a 5.0 cougar or t-bird because they are bigger and flow better than the stock mustang ones

the one he pulled was square and has bigger holes where the ingector goes
