hello, I have what is what we have thought is a 1969 1/2 ford maverick, I paid $800 for it and I was wondering if anyone can help tell me what makes 1969 1/2 mavericks different, is it just the dash ignition or what?

I would like to know, I am 16 and I have a bunch of time to rebuild this car, and I would like to know if it is a true 1969 1/2 so I can try to restore it, or if it is a later, not as rare model so I don't have to worry so much about original specifications when i'm building it.

thank you for any information you can give.

If it has the key on the dash, it is considered a 69 1/2. It's your car, do what you want with it, don't worry about rarity.

The ignition on the dash is the easiest clue. It will also have the smaller diameter steering column.

IMO build the car the way you want it. Being a 69 1/2 really doesn't add any value in the Maverick world

I understand that being it is a 1969 1/2 it doesn't add much value or anything, but I kind of see it as it is a little more rare and I want to restore it because it is unique. So a few more questions. Did they come in the grabber blue (not called grabber at the time),and did they have the pin striping? what about the hood and such? sorry if i am being overwhelming but I really want to know what I can about my car.

Key on the dash and does it have a metal id plate on the driver side door jamb? Also how many screws hold the sill plates down? Does it 4 or 5 lug wheels?

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
They made a ton of mavericks in 69/70 which makes them less rare, don't worry about rarity.

Build up the car like you want it, original, modified,resto-mod,ect...

Also it's not a 8.8 rear end, they had a 7.5. Which looks like an 8.8.

If you want to know exactly what your car came with order a Marti report.
That will help you if you want to build a concourse car.

it is key on the dash, it doesn't look to have a metal plate, I Can't tell how many screws, and 4 lug.

I agree with the others on here, just build it the way you want. If we are talking about the car in your avatar picture, then somebody has already changed the hood as it would not be original to your car. Grabber blue would not be an original color for a 1969 1/2.

it is the car that is my avatar, and I know the hood isn't stock, one question, what were the choices of green for the 1969 1/2 if i may ask?

Looks like a nice car in your avatar.

If you want to know how early, look at your VIN and decode it. Part of it will tell you will tell you the sequence number ... how early in the run it was made.

One board member has the 8th one made here IIRC.

Turns out mine was one one of the first several Comets made in 72 ... it is in the first 1600 total Mercurys made at St. Louis that year. Not super-important, ... but just a neat fact to know and explains why my car still did not get several changes from 71.

My 69.5 has the key under the dash and no metal ID plate :)
