About 3 weeks ago I took my Maverick for a drive,on the way back I got on it a little and shifted manualy through 1st and 2nd gear, when I shifted to drive it sounded like nuetral.I shifted down to 2nd and it was ok.Drove slow home a mile or so.Checked vacum lines etc.A couple of days later I drove with no problem.A week or so later I drove again with no problems until I tryed to manualy shift, this time when I shifted to drive it sounde like nuetral and when I shifted to second it still would not pull. Will not move in any gear.Fluid is pink, does not smell burned.Got under car and the shifter is shifting through the gears.Any ideas, car has not been raced or abused ,has sat a lot during the winter. The only thing I know thats been changed is the timing.Rubber hose going to modulator on trans seems sloppy?:hmmm:

The fluid has water in it if it's pink! It should be a clear dark red color!

Yes water makes it pink . Check for a water leak to the intake manifold ,check for water in the shift modulator hose ,or watch them rug rats :16suspect . Check to see if rain or car wash could be entering the trans fill tube. Check o-ring on bottom of fill tube. Hope this helps.

    Water destroys clutches and bands.

If it is indeed bright pink the first suspect will be the radiator

C-4 are fairly easy to rebuild if you have to . When you drain the trans oil pan, check for big clutch plate fibers-chunks or metal, try to give us some pictures.:tiphat:

Car is on jack stands, will not turn wheels in any gear.Checked for vacum, has vacum.Drained about two quarts of fluid, dark red,and clean. It just seemed pink when I wiped the dip stick with a white paper towel.Doesn't smell burned.Any other suggestions?

Remove the drive shaft from the axle, install it in the c-4 only , now try to turn it while moving the shift selector on the transmission, to all positions. If it does not turn pull the transmission for inspection. Let us Know.:tiphat: The c-4 is a good trans to learn from ,and a simple one to build.:thumbs2:...................:chirp: :comet: Get her done.

Disconect all linkage to the trans, and try to shift the selector shaft. Still let us know.

I have already disconnected the shift linkage and shifted the transmission. It shifted to all positions.Hooked the linkage back up and watched from underneath to see if the shifter was actually shifting the transmission,it was. Thanks for your interest!

Try to drop the valve body ,watch for check balls. Look ,with a light for anything binding or jamming the bands, and adjusters of bands . If the bands get too tight it will lock down the transmission. :16suspect :tiphat: Hope this helps .
