that is okay with me, it will be a few years before I swap it out though, sorry, but it will eventually get done. the hood has rust on the front lip and a little under the hood, also the vents are blocked. in the future when I have more money my plan was to find and adopt another maverick, one that I could build more to my whim, so if i get rid of the hood may depend on that too. but i will definatly keep you in mind okay?
Mine didn't have a plate either. It was original paint ( still is) and there wasn't any evidence of ever having a plate. I ordered a Marti report just to get the tag.
Hey I want a shot at the hood Frank and I think im allot closer drive then you are Heck I will even drive my car up this weekend, swap you hoods out with mine and give you a couple hundred bucks on top of it
well he did dub it first, so that is between you two, and the color scheme is already on the hood that matches the car (grabber blue with gold stripe) and i am busy this weekend racing, leaving Friday and coming back Sunday night. and as I told frank,it will probably be a few years because I do plan on eventually getting another maverick, and I might get one without the grabber hood and just swap it over then, cuz currently I have the rare one so when and if I get another I don't have to go looking and spend the extra cash I don't have
my maverick, and some upgrades here are some pictures of my maverick, then i got the new wheels, and painted under the hood a little
You know I was just going for a laugh and I do want one of those hoods. But I dont know if you realise it or not but that hood is actually more rare then your car is. The listed production numbers for 1969 of the maverick (they only came in two doors for the first couple years) is 127,833 cars http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/mav_years/1970.html now the grabber hood only came on the grabber model(obviously) and those hoods were only produced for two model years so if we look and see how many grabbers there were in 1971 and 1972 we can see how many of those hoods actually existed.. and the number for 1971 is.... 38,963 http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/mav_years/1971.html and then 1972... 35,347 http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/mav_years/1972.html So that comes to a total of 74,310 grabber hoods produced from the factory for a car that was built over a 8 year period in the US. So just according too those numbers there were more 1969.5 mavericks produced then grabber hoods... Thats 53,523 more 69.5 mavericks then grabber hoods. But honestly for most people the 1969.5 is actually one of the worst mavericks you can get. The weak falcon suspension and the horrible rear axle are a killer, then you add in the smaller transmission tunnel that you have too cut out too fit a big transmission in it and all the little odditys that the 69.5 has over the rest of the model years (like the rear shocks) its more of an expense too most people then just buying one of the later model cars. Remeber these cars are weird, they dont tend too be worth that much in their bone stock form, people like to race them and tend too modify the bejesus out of them. Please dont take this as an insult because I am not meaning it that way. But like the other members have said before your car is actually worth more if you have fun with it. You know, if you leave the grabber hood on it, if you put a V8 in it its actually worth allot more then if you left it in stock form. Have fun with it its a very good looking car it probably turns heads every where you go with it.
See I have always thought it was awesome that my dad still has his first vehicle (1947 Willys flat fender) and with the 1969.5 I want to try and keep that going, yeah they are less desirable now but in the future, when I am my dads age (2047) the car will be 80 years old and being the 1969 is will be more rare because people didn't want them at the time y'know?
The boy has a dream and everyone is shooting him down. Build him up. Do it your way. My son also has a 69.5. Not going stock. Swapped in front disc brakes and a 8 inch rear end. Swapped in bucket seats out of a Neon, and would love to trade you and all original 1969.5 hood for that Grabber hood. (kidding. No I'm not.) We're "upgrading" his to be a better road worthy reliable car. It'll still look stock, only not to on of us forum guys. Good luck, don't get down, and make a to do list with dates. Stay on track and love your ride forever.
drive it for the first time today. Very very surprised how well it runs, I was cruising at around 45 ish and i let go of the wheel and it tracked straight, not bad for original 1969
