Well that's the issue here..ive tried a few ways and nothing has fixed it..can't get it to charge the battery, tried more than one battery also..so its not that, been checking my connections...i can't see it there..my alt light does stay on while running though. i will be changing the ground for my alternator tomorrow after work to see if it is that..other then that i'm not sure what else to try, any idea's? if i can't find it i might just have to pay someone to find it...which i do not want to do because it's probably a simple fix. thanks in advance i also had the alt tested like a week or two ago and was good.
Have you verified that the fusible link between the alternator and the battery is still good ? It's taped up inside the harness and has to be unwrapped to see if it's blown or not. If the alternator, battery and the voltage regulator are all good, the chances are the fusible link is blown. Mine blew a few months back, someone else here had the same problem a few months ago too.
I also had an issue with the plug on mine once...swapped it out for a new one, and has worked ever since. Mine is one of the later model 3g alternators.
It's a 3G alt from a mustang, I have it wired with the yellow to 12v side of seliniod as well with the constant 12v 4ga. Wire that runs through a 150a breaker. And then the green/red stripe wire I soldered on the factory plug for the alt dash light and plugged it into that socket. Maxx, is there any way to test the plug?
I honestly don't know...maybe someone else will chime in. I checked everything else on mine as well though...and that was the only thing left lol. Got one from O'reilleys and spliced it into the existing harness and it's been working fine ever since. I wired mine just like the diagram that was posted earlier...in fact, that is what I used as a reference.
Having my dad take it back into the alternator shop today for them to check it out again.. Sent him with the wires aswell... Need to get this goinggggg; racing on the 10th... I hope.
Thanks to everyone who helped with there ideas once again.. Looks like I should be makin it out! My dad ended up taking it to a diff alternator shop and he found it right away... Was a cracked/broken wire which is why it charged on the first day of break in but then stopped... Even that day it had kicked on/off.. 48 dollars fixed it all up though.... On to the next...issue. I'm sure one will arise.
im very glad also...just a little irritated as i did take it apart to look for a bad connection/broken solder..didn't see anything though, but hey..at least i can wire up the new stereo and find a different brand of muffler..car is just TOO loud.
