Are you wanting to replace your stock gas tank with another stock tank? If so, you need to pull up your trunk mat and you will find that the tank is part of your trunk floor. There are a lot of small bolts around the entire tank lip bolting it to the bottom of the tank well. Get the gas out of the tank first if you can, remove all of the bolts, sending unit wires, gas hose and your filler neck and the tank should lift up and out through your open trunk lid. 1969.5 & 1970 Maverick are the only ones built this way. 1971 and up went to the tank being strapped up under the trunk floor
Welcome from a fellow 70s owner. The gas tank was, so far, the hardest thing for me to find. In fact I never did. No one makes an after market tank for it. Like stated above, it is part of the trunk floor. I ended up taking mine and having it redone. I think it cost me $225 Pics here.... http://smegnl.medina.oh.us/index.ph...e&id=57:tank-leak&catid=35:maverick&Itemid=54
Thank you for sharing the picture, my 70 had the floor cut out and replaced with a 71 floor when it started it's drag race career in 78, and up to this time I had never before seen pictures of the stock 70 trunk and tank.
Welcome from California. I have to ask since I'm Olerodder (ole hot rodder), but did you have or do you have a T-bucket...............nice handle.
Always wanted to build one, but just never got around to it. My last real hotrod (now in Finland) was a 31 A Coupe with blown flathead.
