I have been looking for the complete thread on the DIY r & p. Use the chevy rack. I know there's member using it but how do you make it.

 maybe someone will know a answer to this , but I didn't even know anyone here did it to a mav. Not suprised as there are LS1 mav's around even, but never heard of the rack and pinion.

Me and several others asked the person to do a DIY, but I guess they never got around to it. Not everyone has the time to sit down and write it up/take pictures.

Shoot I've been putting off a Vinyl wrap how to for months, I'll get around to it some day :D

Just out of all curiosity but why would you want to do this?

Besides the reduced turning radius(trust me I know how much a craptacular turning radius sucks... you know how much of a pain it is to do a 3 point turn into a stupid parking stall at walmart...) the lost ground clearence and the interference with some exhaust setups(you know long tube headers)
But you end up having to weld things together like this just to make it work.

I think if you really wanted to go with a R&P setup look at a mustang II setup. Or on the other hand just keep the stock manual setup you will be money ahead and possibly safer depending on your fabrication skills...

I don't know, mine is at the same level as the belly bar, I don't see any reduced ground clearance, or exhaust issues...

:naughty:That flaming river still uses the same setup, that is just a kit for the mustang rack and the flaming river steering column which is a different joint setup then the stock steering column uses. The reason why it is in there is so the steering shaft doesnt flex and bind locking your steering in place on that tight of a bend. So no matter what you do you are supposed to weld a similar bracket in to hold the steering shaft in place.

To quote the note at the bottom of the web page you sent me too

"NOTE: There is also a kit available to create a 3-Joint System (FRUJKT7) with a 3/4" DD X 3/4" DD U-Joint and a Support Bearing and Bracket. The 3-Joint kit should be ordered in addition to the correct U-Joint kit for your Steering Box or Rack."

Here is the link to the FRUJKT7 kit
    http://www.flamingriver.com/index.php/products/c0005/s0014/FRUJKT7

and I will quote the note at the bottom of that web page too

"NOTE: This kit should be ordered in addition to the correct U-Joint kit for your Steering Box or Rack."

After all guys we need to be safe and do the steering setup the correct way if not for yourself but for every other car on the road. I dont want to have too post this stuff up on scary steering because you are trying too save a couple bucks http://128.83.80.193/scarysteering/index.html
