Can you explain to me why the Odyssey batteries are better than the Optimas? If they really are I will make a battery tray myself and make it a little bit bigger so the battery fits...And when I go buy a fusible link wire do I have to ask them for a specific gauge size wire or what kind of wire is the best to use?

a fusible link is supposed to be just a few gauge sizes below the main wire, but with a higher heat threshold in the shielding so that when the wire melts it doesn't burn your car down.

ex. 8 gauge main wire - 14 gauge fusible link wire. Fusible link is nothing more than standard wire with higher heat threshold shielding.

you can get rid of all those burnt wires and your voltage regulator if you go with a 1 wire GM 100amp alternator as it mounts with your Ford brackets.

You know that might be fine if you could just go buy a 1 wire 100amp alternator at any old auto parts store and they would have one on shelf. But they are about twice as expensive as the 2G he has and unfortunitely the only advantage they have over the three wire alternators is ease of initial setup. After all as I have said before if the 1 wire was a better setup then GM would have used them for more then a couple years, and they would have used them for something other then industrial applications where the engine just runs at a single speed.

Now I can go into allot of the problems of the 1 wire versus 3 wire alternator setup, including the fact that the 1 wire alternators wont charge at low rpms, the loss of the possible charging guages ect but that is easy to search for.

    Now back to the OP..

Yes the 2G stands for 2nd gen like you thought.

There are a few things you can do in place of the fuseable link. Like I said you can install an inline mega fuse or you can install a circuit breaker (its a good idea too do this to all alternators including the 1 wire alternators...you know its a safety factor hate to burn up your car because you are too lazy to install a fuze and instead have a constant current from the battery to the alternator)

For a cheap setup you can get a megafuse box off of one of the newer ford trucks

It is a cheap and easy find in the junkyard they usually have a plastic cover that fits over them. All you need to do is put it inline on the fat wire going from the alternator too the junction with your battery cable at the starter solenoid. The rest of the mess of wires you have need to be cut out and replaced.

Also it doesnt matter if you have a 3 wire alternator or a 1 wire alternator you still should cut out all the lines and clean that mess up so it doesnt cause problems in the future.

They arent really they are just more expensive... they are both dry cell batteries they have similar warrenties, but which is used more... psst its not the Odyssey... of course if I spent $200 for the bottom of the line Odyssey battery I would rather tell you it walked on water then admit its as good as the batteries half its price... I mean really unless you are sitting your car in a stereo competition running your 30kw continuous stereo system all day .

To give you a good idea how big of a system a 30kw stereo is here you go check out this Tahoe. (the first two show some of the work the third one shows the completed Tahoe doing a demo... check out the girls hair:rofl:)

I hate to say it comparing a 30Kw stereo to anything he might run is like comparing a top fuel drag racer engine to what you would find in a smart car.:burnout:

well i got my chrome 1 wire of the shelf at my local parts store for $87.99 and it has been in my race car maverick for 2 years with no issue and at idle it put's out 14.25v as my stock ford alt would only charge at 13.18v at idle when under load and my alt light would flicker. and my 1 wire keeps my Optima battery charged up to turn my motor over nice and fast unlike my old alt i had to put my battery charger on it every couple weeks.
don't know how long it's been since you looked into 1 wire alt as years ago i didnt like them either but they have really improved.
also it is a missconception that Optimas are a dry cell battery, if you read the label it say's danger sulfuric acid. also if you contact Optima they will tell you this fact aswell. but even if you google there are still links that say it's a dry cell but on Optimas web-site it states it as containing sulfuric acid with leak proof vents, which are the gray circle things on top of the battery.
also a friend of mine had his optima break loose from its tray while out in his 4x4 and it went into his fan and he had sulfuric acid everywhere.
