In the Hot Rod world Tubos still have a bad name because of the technology back in the 80s. People complain about turbo lag which honestly with today's ceramic ball bearing tubos is already almost non existence. With a properly sized turbo you can get virtually same linear response as a supercharger. But they still complain about it, so here I present to you Zero lag http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_articles/id/2619/external-combustion-rocket-zero-lag-teaser.aspx http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=n_qCd6Lx7pE
Having spent three years in Germany, countless hours with Peter Schropp of Schropp Tuning, http://www.schropp-fahrzeugtechnik.de/usa_index.html, and exposure to turbocharged motors, I am completely sold on the advantages of turbo applications. On another forum that I lurk, anyone who inquires on supercharging, I encourage them to consider turbo over supercharge. A bit more expensive, but definitely worth the performance, in my view.
The only excuse for our cars is placement/lack of room in the engine bay, unless you're really good at custom pipe work.
I love my turbo, even with the journal bearing I have full boost by 3000rpm. With my stall converter that's nearly instant. If I can build a kit, anybody can. My skills are mediocre at best. It's just how much determination you have to build it!
