Well it's finally done. After almost a year of procrastination the conversion to a small bumper is done on my 1973 Comet.

I don't have a small bumper valance so the one from 73 will have to do. I don't think the larger opening looks that bad anyway.

Now I will have to look at what my NOS valance looks like.. I like the small bumper conversion you did and I am planning to do it to mine. But that big gap at the bottom is a little much.. for me. Another cause for MY procrastination..

    Nice looking car.

Now I need to find a Comet hood for mine to make it look right again. Procrastination here too.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. The car certainly has come a long way since I bought it for $625.00 four years ago. It was originally white with a black halo vinyl top. The floors were completely rusted through, and it was in rough shape.

This forum has been the most valuable resource i could ever have found. I did not grow up working on cars but with the information from the forum I have been able to do much of the work myself.

Currently it is ford color - Medium Tan Metallic (8J) but eventually I would like it to be a Vista Orange Comet GT clone.

I dont mind the gap, I think it looks pretty good. Maybe get some kind of black grill to put in there.

This. I was thinking a pair of driving lights off a newer car - something tasteful that looks like it belongs. Then a short section of black plastic cross-hatched material to fill the space between the lights. I bet a trip to the junkyard would yield both items for not much coin.(y)

My NOS one has been waiting a couple of years now.. I am also thinking I may do that modification also. I have an NOS valance and I am wondering if it's a 72 or a 73.. Not sure if there is a difference.. Need to check what I have..

I actually like both the small bumpers and 73 bumpers especially with the bumper tuck...:yup:

But with the Comets, I am partial to the small ones, since the front bumper follows the lines of the grille
