Hey folks, I found the leak in my power steering system, and I must say I'm kind of embarrassed it took this long. In my defense, I haven't gotten under the car with it running until now, but still, its a pretty obvious problem. There's a pinhole leak in one of the lines but I don't know which part number I need from autozone. Also, how do I actually dis/re-connect the line. I'm really sorry if I seem like an ignoramus- it's because I am. Trying to learn though!

This pic is from the front of the car, just inside the drivers side tire. the arrow indicates the obvious hole in the line.

So Which part number would I need, and is it just a simple screw on/screw off thing?

If you can't find the part, some NAPA auto parts can make you a new with your old hose.

Extremely common part, Control Valve to cylinder Hose, 3A717-42B is the National Parts Depot number, $49.95, EA. Wooo, I didn't think they were that much...

Yes, it's best to use some "Line Wrenches" that way you won't round anything off. You could look around the net, I'm sure you could find those hoses cheaper, look under 68 Mustang.

I just looked on Ebay...Boy...they are expensive there also, I can't believe I spent 90 bucks on 2 hoses...If you look, the 65-66 hoses are different.

In your photo I see what looks like a radiator type hose clamp that is in a position to chew a hole in that hose! I don't know what it is there for, but please check it out before replacing your hose. Also I got my hoses at NAPA for around $20! I'll admit that was a couple of years ago, though. :)

those leaks are why i am converting to manual steering just waiting for the center link. put to many fords sideways during snow and rain ( or when Spokane washes the streets during a 30 degree mourning) because of ford power steering  mine looks like its leaking from the ball socket of the control arm and was almost less to convert.
