Do I have to use the duraspark module or can I use a different brand without any problems

It doesn't HAVE to say Duraspark on the box...you can use a replacement part that is the same as the Duraspark.

MSD makes an adapter that plugs into your stock distributor harness and allows you to utilize one of their ignition boxes. I converted mine to a MSD 6AL and have had no issues. I like that I have a rev limiter now and it seems to perform somewhat better. It was an easy install and looks pretty good too!

Can I use the BWD brand from advance auto or even the MSD street fire brand could I also switch to the blaster 2 coil without switching the distribitor

Yes to all. Cant beat duraspark though, it's as good as the MSD.

Welllll except for the fact that it's not actually a CDI box like the MSD... But I don't wanna get us hung up on details.

Really don't need a MSD unless you have 13 to 1 compression or better. It's more eye candy if you can run pump gas

I agree, but there are also other benefits. It will also fire the crappiest spark plug you can possibly give it.

I don't even know what CDI is!(aside from the wiki excerpt)
Feel free to let us know! No use in hogging up all the information :D

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_discharge_ignition

In addition to the whole "Multiple Spark" thing that gives MSD its claim to fame, a CDI box, instead of just sending 12v to the coil, discharges much higher voltage via a capacitor to overcome charge time on the coil itself and to provide a more powerful spark. It was initially invented to fire higher revving engines when conventional inductive spark couldn't keep up. Even systems like HEI and Duraspark have their limits as far as revs because of ramp-up time on the coil, but that isn't really a problem for most of us. Mine's not going over 6500 any time soon.

The main reason I even run an MSD is simply because I had it around. It did make a noticeable difference for me over the GM HEI module especially at idle, but I never compared it directly to a Duraspark box. Spark plugs seems to last pretty much forever though and that's kinda nice on a Maverick.

Same here, I only run a CDI because it was left over from my nitrous days. It makes it easier on my Pertronix module since the module doesn't have to carry the full coil current, just switch the ignition box.
