Would like to find out if it would be worth picking up a 1972 Maverick. The car has been sitting for around 10 years. There is a six w/ auto trans and high miles. It would be basically would be given to me from a friend of mine from the Air Force. Any ideas if I should take them up on the offer.

Welcome to the board. Even the parts are worth something, and the price is right..:Welcome:

Sitting for 10 years means that EVERYTHING would need to be gone thru. Free is a great price, but if you are wanting a running/driving fun "toy", a $3500 already driving car would be cheaper in the long run.
