I've been trying to solve an occasional misfire at idle and slight hesitation at 60mph. I had installed a new distributor cap, rotor, condenser and points. I set 37 deg dwell and dialed in 10 deg timing. It would run fine for about two weeks at a time, then back under the hood to tinker away until I got it smooth again. I finally got fed up and bought the Pertonix, I wanted to do the upgrade anyway so I thought let's just get it done. Sure enough, a few days after I installed it I started to get the stumble bumble today on the way home. I checked my installation thinking the hold down screw became loose. It was all good. I then thought, well maybe a vacuum leak, maybe the vacuum advance? I set up a temp vacuum meter to run to the passenger compartment and walked out to the car. On the way to the car I had remembered reading on the board to check at night for sparks. I thought, let's do that before I put in the temp vacuum set up. Well as soon as I started the car, spark city. At least three spots are arching, one through the coil wire to the fuel pump line (that’s a pretty good feeling, essentially setting on a fire ball waiting to ignite!!!) the second is on cylinder 6, I can see "light" around the base of the plug to the head (I believe it's coming from under the plug cap somewhere). The 3rd is the same as cylinder 6 except in right next door on cylinder 5. (inline 6, 200cid)

Looks like I need plug wires, any suggestions on brand? I also popped for the new fireball coil, thought that might be useful information. Does anybody have a favorite pic of a clean 6 ignition wire set up? While I'm making some changes I'm going to clean up the area a bit!
I moved the coil wire off and temp zip tied it away from all metal LOL. Thanks!

2012-04-20_17-56-31_987_original.jpg Not sure how much I can help. I have a pic of my 200I6. I'm actually responding because I was never sure where to set my dwell. Thanks! Btw, my timing is also set @ 10 degress btc.

Found a good tune up cheat sheet, seems to be good info. Also, your engine bay looks nice and clean. I like the 90 degree plug wires off the cap, that looks much better.

You can add another.005 to the plug gap, as you have the Pertronix. Makes it run better, better gas mileage.

So I should be running it up .039? I'll redo them after I get the plug wires. If I'm not mistaken I split the difference at .034 (Thanks!)

I run MSD Super Conductor, on everything that I own. This is a GREAT set of wires. Only 50 ohms of resistance per foot ot wire. To put that into perspective; the Ford Racing plug wires (A very good set of wires) are 1500 ohms of resistance, per foot.
The less ohms resistance, the more current gets to your sparkplugs.:tiphat:
