Asked this Q over on Hotrodders.com and couldn't even get an acknowledgement. What is the large Welch plug in the rear of the shifter tower for? External shifter? Anyone ever seen one? Russ
Either for machining something on the inside or where a core was placed at the foundry to make an internal relief and then machined/plugged. Or, like you said, maybe some other kind of shifter.
Probably more casting, or machine than a different shifter. The S10 T5 has the same design, but just farther back on the tail housing.
Acknowledgement accepted! Nothing crucial, just curious about it. Was hoping Lonnie would see this and respond...
Hmm that looks like a great way to make it so you are able to line bore/hone that shift rail diamater.Who knows it could be something as simple as a mold plug when they did the sprue tree.
ive see some one off external shifters using that hole. ive thought about making one but havent made the time to.
