302s and 289s use the same cams, you need to get a cam to match your heads and intake, don't buy one just cause it sounds cool, you won't be happy if you do.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
And more importantly you need one that wont make your valves hit your pistons.

Like the other two have mentioned, without a "bad ass" motor to begin with, a "bad ass" cam will do you more harm than good.................plus the motor if fairly stock will not perform as good as the stock motor did................IMHO

You could always remove one of the spark plug boots if you just want the sound.

I have an extreme energy comp cam in my car it sounds pretty cool BUT I had to upgrade the lifters and the valve springs so theres other things that go with the cam like the others said.
I made the mistake of not changing the valve springs before running the car after I put the cam in thinking ah nothing will happen WRONG! it pulled a stud for the rocker right away and caused me alot of grief trying to figure out what was wrong. why it was running so rough and back firing at me through the carb among other problems all because I only upgraded the cam.

The springs had nothing to do with the stud pulling. That was the result of the increased lift (and lift rate) and the duration. The stock studs are about limited to something like a Comp 268H. Any cam bigger than that needs screw in studs. Or a switch to pedestal rockers, which aren't a whole lot stronger than pressed in studs, but they will handle a good bit more cam than pressed in studs will.

I think with stock heads and pressed in studs you can only go with the thumpr cam. The other 2 require screw in studs.

I was going to post same but it hit me there could have been a issue with spring bind, which if it didn't bust something, would possibly pull a stud... Then the problem would not likely be with only one rocker...
