    Hi All,

i got a 1972 4 door Mav and looking at replacing the alternator as it got became quite noisy, probably worn bearings? i been trying to find a replacement part but not sure what to order...the only really clear mark i could find on the alternator is "60A" which must stand for 60 Ampere, but when i look for an alternator for my type car on autokrafters i only find 75A or 90A alternators. Can someone advise me on this? just i case i took a picture of the alternator.

    THANKS! :)

Those alts are fairly easy to service, I've usually just overhauled my own... Front bearing is a 6203 and is common as parking lot gravel, Snapper even used then in the pulleys of the drive system on their mowers... I can't remember ever needing to replace the rear bearing, usually with front bearing and brushes they're good for another 100K mi...

Thanks for the replies :) and for the link! i wasn't familiar with rockauto, comes up with a lot more specific results then on autokrafters.

So i see, for my car, 1972 FORD MAVERICK 5.0L 302cid V8, i get a couple of different alternators to choose from? any of these better then the others?

Or should i just get the bearings and brushes as Krazy Comet suggested. it would probably be a bit cheaper but not sure if would i need any specials tools to replace it.

Thanks for your advice so far!

You can use the bigger alternators, but I'd suggest replacing the fusible link between the alternator and the battery when you do so. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace that anyway, mine popped and I "played hell" in trying to figure out why it wouldn't charge the battery.

Being you having an early alternator case...don't return it as a core. Mustang guys will need that style case for their resto. Early alternator case w/round shoulder in foreground...rebuilt case in background. Who knows...you might make an exta dollar or two.

Ahh okay so the "core" price is when i would send back my part and then i get a refurbished part back? Don't think that would be a good option for me anyway as i probably order the part from the US, i don't want to have to send it to the US first before getting my replacement part.

So if i get it right, i can get any alternator that is on the autokrafters site, but also taking advice to replace the fusible link and battery, and you think that i can then even sell my old alternator for a couple bucks? repaired or not?

Yes, you are correct.(y) The core charge on alternators isn't what you'd call a "deal breaker"

I haven't checked the price but wouldn't an alternator be cheaper at any parts store than buying from Auto Krafters? Gotta remember they will be a shipping charge. The 75 amp alternator is the same physical size as the 60 amp and will swap out with no problem.

well i found a couple of places that have ford usa alternators, but none that seems to be specific for maverick or mustang, and none of 60A. but the ones that i did found were in the price range of 90 - 260 Euro so like between 120 and 325 dollars :p

on Rock Auto i found one 60A Acdelco Part#3342099 for €33.99 plus Fedex Internation Economy €53.78 is a total of 87.77 euro

so far it seems to be cheaper to order from the US! :)

Since your in Holland, I'd check RockAuto's shipping, it's outrageous to Canada, and we're right next door, I wouldn't want to think what it would be to Holland. There has to be a Mustang parts seller somewhere.

so far the cheapest alternator i found here in the Netherlands in a webshop is 90 euro, but i also requested a quote from USA Car Part dealership, but so far RockAuto would be the cheaper option, although i will have to see what the deal is exactly with the import tax, but i believe as long as its under 160 euro there should be no additional tax.
