Hello My name is Simon and I live in Columbus Ohio. I have a 19 74 Maverick Grabber.

62D- Maverick 2-door Sport Sedan Grabber

Exterior Color- 3E - Medium Bright Blue Metallic

Interior- KB - Medium Blue - All Vinyl Super Soft Bench

    Axel- 6 - 3.00:1

    DSO - 71 - Los Angeles

I am perplexed as to what stripe kit I should use! Black or White? I am looking for opinions because both look good. Is there a way to tell what the original stripe color was? Also all the pics I see online show 74 Grabbers with the lower half of the car painted the same as the kit. was that part of the stripe kit? When I purchase a stripe kit will I need to paint the bottom half of the car that color or is that included in the kit (I doubt it is but I don't want screw this up). I want this car as close to original as possible so anyone out there with any info would be a great help. Craig Selvey sent me here for the Info. Also would my Maverick had the Grabber decal on the back? any info would be great. Sorry for all the newbe questions. I have had the car since 06' and other than paint it's close to being on the road. power steering valve is being rebuilt and then time to cruise.

Thanks for any help guys, Simon from Ohio.

It's not a superbomb, it's more of a jazzy firecracker.

    Nice Car!!
White stripes look good on a Blue car.
White cars were limited to Avocado, Orange, Brown, Blue and Black stripes, All colors except white could have white stripes, and all colors could have black stripes.
www.martiautoworks.com, will get you a Marti Report, which will tell you what you might want to know about your car.
Oh yeah, the bottom section is paint, the stripe just finishes it off.

Glad you found your way on here Simon. I have lots of advice...but there is even MORE on here.

Get a Marti report. Tell them you want to know specifically what color the stripes were originally. You might be able to sand the paint down and see if you can find the original color. Also...look inside the door jambs or behind the front fenders for the original color. I would speculate white.

It would not have said Grabber on the back of the car. There is a small stripe that goes around the tail-light panel on a 1974 Grabber.

If keeping the car blue, I would vote for white or silver stripes :)

Thanks for all the Welcomes. I will do the Marti report and see what I get back.

The door jambs Craig were painted but under the hood seems to show it, or looks that way anyway. As soon as I figure this camera out I will try to post pics online. Thank you all for the help and kindness. The last guy I talked to over the phone was kind of a jerk. He told me that he wouldn't restore, "That Bleeping steering wheel because it was an embarrassment." and that it was a, "Bad business decision". And this came from a steering wheel restoration company.

I ordered a new Maverick Grabber in 1974 so I was there back in the day. Most of the blue cars had white stripes. Some but not many had black stripes. I'm not sure what other color stripes were available at the time for blue cars, maybe tan depending on the interior color. I like blue with white stripes a lot. I'm not sure what colors are available today but listen to Craig, he knows what he is talking about. My car was bright red with black stripes black bucket seat interior, 302 automatic on the floor, am/fm stereo, power steering, disc brakes. Owned it until August 1988. Wish I could find it. I also owned a white one with black stripes that I recently sold. Enjoy your car!!
