i just swapped a efi 5.0 ho mustang motor into my maverick with aode transmission.and my overdrive went out so now i cant get on the interstate and drive it lol.so what other tranny can i bolt up to it.its my dd
C-4 auto...Its only 3 speed though, no OD. Puts you in the same boat your in now. If you really want the OD... Fix yourse or find a good one to swap.
I had the same question but for a Windsor (351 CI/5.8L) engine (same bell housing bolt pattern) going into a '70 F100. A search indicated a 4R70W would be best. The plan is to use a standalone transmission controller. I think the 4R70W is dimensionally identical to the AODE. Here's some info from a Lincoln web site that gets quoted a lot. BEST STOCK 4R70W THAT WILL BOLT TO WINDSOR V8 The BEST 4R70W trans that will bolt to a Windsor V8 is a '99 & newer 4.2 V6. It has all the best parts and the same number of clutches as the V8 mod motor transmissions. This trans has: best case, best accumulators, mechanical diode 1 way intermediate clutch, dimpled pan & extended pickup, 450hp capable gear set, best direct clutch drum, best direct clutch plates, best forward clutch wave plate good to 450 hp, best intermediate clutch (4 plate), best stub shaft). Just remember that for a car install, you must switch the manual lever to one from a car. NEXT BEST 4R70W TRANS THAT BOLTS TO 5.0 & 5.8 is '98 3.8 V6 or 4.2 V6. The difference from '99-up 4.2 V6 which will bolt to 5.0 & 5.8 is 1 less intermediate clutch plate - easy to add - and the valve body does not have good direct clutch fluid exhaust for 4-2 manual shifts. ALL prior to '98 do NOT have the expensive mechanical diode 1-way clutch I'll be using a 4R70W out of a '00 F150 with the 4.2L engine.
Yep it sure does, the M5ODR2 (5 speed manual) that was also offered behind the V6 is what the Ranger guys go for as it fits the V8 and the shifter is located in the same position as the V6 Ranger transmissions. The V8 M5ODR2's shifter is located further forward, missing the Ranger's shifter hole.
So how were you controlling the AODE??? They are fully PCM operated... Unless your running something like 4.56 gears, there isn't ant reason you can't drive it on the highway, would operate as a three speed like the C4, C6, FMX etc...
He either has a transmission controller like this to shift the transmission http://www.tciauto.com/tc/electronics/transmission-control-unit.html or he had a different transmission like an AOD...
Was my thought, especially since if the TV cable isn't connected or is badly misadjusted will burn the O/D band...
Theoretically yes you can the 3rd gear is a 1:1 ratio and you will pretty much have the same transmission as a C4. But if it was a mechanical failure that caused you too loose OD how long is it going to last before it starts taking out other gears... hate to be stuck on the side of the road because you lost a pump or something because trash went through it..
X 2 on this. It's only a matter of time before something worse happens in there, unless there's a problem with the controller that's not letting it go into OD
