    Meet Gene Fiore at SpeedWorld and just hung around watching the cars and talking with Gene.....................and some of the other "Gray Hairs" at the track. Gene's Grabber was the only Maverick in attendance but there were quite a few cars and the staging lanes were pretty full.
    Gene said he did a personal best of 15.15 (of which he had more than one pass) and made it through 3 or 4 rounds of eleminations before he lost to a V8 car.
    I was quite surprised that Gene's car runs through the mufflers and is so close to knocking on that 14 second window.
    Had a great time and it was a pleasure to meet Gene. The only thing missing was for my Maverick to be there........................maybe next year.

    Glad you got to spend some time with Gene. Maybe next time we can get more people together. Ruth and I just got back from Tucson on the motorcycle. Great day for a ride. Went to the American Legion Riders district meeting.:)

    Thanks for the kind words Gene.
    Next year I will be coming back to Phoenix with my wife again, but this time we will be there from the 20th of September to the 29th of September in 2013.
    Do you think they will have any events on either of those weekends.......because if they do I would certainly consider trailering the Maverick over to participate.................................would be kind of fun to have some kind of outing for Mavericks/Comets..............or???????????????

    Thought I would post the response I got from Hal at SpeedWorld. I asked him if he had a schedule for next year as I was thinking about trailering the Maverick up to Phoenix while my wife was there and this is his response;

    Hi John, thanks for the kind words. With all the problems we're having with the county trying to close us, your comments really help.

    We have no idea if we'll even be open this time next year, and won't have any idea until the end of this one. I do have a tentative schedule, but it's mostly for the spring events. All I can say is to check our website - the upcoming events are available by scrolling down the page. Right now it only goes to the end of this year, but check back every couple of weeks.

    What kind of car do you have? We love to meet new racers and their rides, and hope you'll/we'll be able to put it together. Thanks again!

    Yeah, with all the crap going on with the county I'm not surprised. Hopefully everything will get worked out and the track will stay open. Here is the link to their site:

    I just read an article in the December issue of Hot Rod magazine (page 17) about the issues that speedworld is facing. Very sad and I hope they can stay open. There's just no good reason for what they're going through by the sound of it.

    The way things are going we could loose BOTH tracks next year. that would so suck.

    Wish you guys luck.
    As it is for me, I've got to trailer 3 to 4 hours to get to the nearest strip, and with gas approaching $5 a gallon where I am at it gets harder and harder.
