Just wanted to pop in here and say hello to all the members. Like all or most of you, I am a true gearhead. I have owned in the past two Mavericks and one Coment. A 1971 red Maverick in 1976 and a 1972 Comet in 1978 and my last 1973 V8 Marverick in 1981. Now I am looking for another Maverick. And was thinking perhaps a 2010 or newer Ford alumin block V6 out of a Mustang might be a good motor swap.
I doubt that motor will fit between the shock towers. You will probably have to do a MII front suspension conversion and after you go through all that trouble and expense I wouldnt be putting a V6 in it. Welcome to the site though!
to the site! I agree with John! I wouldn't waste the money and effort to do a V6 swap, now matter how much HP it had. Just my 2 cents.
From rainy San Jose. Although I think a new Ford V6/trans would be a great idea, I think buy the time cut out the shock towers, put some newer type front suspension in and purchased the V6/auto, you would be further ahead to just put a V8 or newer in-line six in the car.............................................IMHO
:Handshake ...DO IT !!! it will be one of only a few if any...lots of V8s and straight 6s. once you do the... RC-107 ...front end, almost anything will fit... ......
To My New Found Friends I have been and still am on many different fourms from many different sites. But I must admit that is this the best response I have ever gotten right off the bat. Sounds like I have a good chance of meet a very good group of guys on here. And it sounds like I do not know as much about either car as I thought I did. First off thank you for all the welcomes to this site . Now about the maybe motor swap, my first idea was because these newer V6 motors do not weigh as much as a standard cast iron small block. And the hourse power is around 310 I believe and I was looking at putting a STS rear mounted single turbo on it as well. So I take it that the newer V6 is wider than the 302 motors???? And for me different can be fun, but may not always be the best choice. That is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy coming to the forums for info . Now of course I was wishing to hear someone that had already done this swap, but so far I am going to take it that this is not a common swap....And believe me, I have nothing againist the 302, its a good motor . John Holden I have a question for you sir, I would like to learn more about the MII suspension you was talking about , if you have a chance that is. I really enjoy learning new things. And again, guys thanks for the great welcome you gave me. I will later on post some of my other toys I have on here, 2000 S10 Extreem/ with a 2003 Corvette and tranny in it,,,1980 Sunbird that has a crazy custom paint job I put on it back in 2008 and perhaps a couple of my bikes and boats.....Take care all. Drop me a line anytime you wish........Oh by the way, my first name is William..........
William, I haven't done the swap personally buni have researched it quite a bit. Look in the tech articles section on this site for some good write ups.
Ok Thanks John, I sure will do that. Off hand I do not remember if this site gives the location of the people you are talking to. I am from Idiana, may I ask where your from??
I'm in New Jersey. Look under my user name on the left of this post. It will have the location if people filled it out in their profile. Yours says Midwest.
Welcome Welcome frm Northeastern Illinos "Windy City" area. I agree w/ 71Gold.If u can pull if off, it will most likely be a "one of a kind". The Mod motors are wider than the SBF, but if you have the skills, determination and financial resources - I say go for it. Adding the turbo, will be "icing on the cake", IMO. I am sure if u start the project and post updates here, u will have a lot of folks watching. Gud Luck...
