Is my oil pressure too high?

My car consumes about 1 quart of oil per month. The previous owner was using 10w40 on it but when I took it to a friends shop he recommended to use 10w30. I only ran the oil about 2,300 miles and within that time i had to add 2 quarts.It was getting low last week so I decided to do an oil change instead of adding another quart.I bought 10w40 and I also bought a bottle of Lucas oil Stabilizer...I did the oil change and added the bottle of lucas along with 4 quarts of oil.Once I got home I checked the oil level on the dipstick and it was far above the "Safe Section".The bottle of lucas was 1 quart plus the 4 quarts of oil together it was 5 quarts but it was pretty overfilled on the dipstick.So when I'm idling my oil pressure is around 60-62 and when I'm driving it goes to 65.I also noticed a little bit of white smoke coming out my exhaust as I was idling but it was a small amount,however I have never had smoke coming out. So do I flush out some oil Or do I have to do another oil change completely?Was using the oil stabilizer a bad idea?I have school tomorrow so I wouldnt mind doing the oil change again since I have a lift at school.Thanks

I just feel like 60 PSI is too much.But then again I dont know what the normal pressure should be.

 

did you change the...filter?

 

I changed the filter as well

But my dipstick reads far above the safe area. I know that it isn't safe for an engine to be running when it's overfilled on oil

 

Your putting to much thought into it , maybe your dipstick is wrong 5qts is what these motors hold 4+the filter = 5qts

 

It does seem oil pressure @60 psi. w/ engine at op temp. and idling is a bit high. My car runs arnd 35-40psi @ op temp. and abt 70 @ cruising speed w/ 10 * 30 oil.
Im just stating what my car stats are, most of the guys who've posted in this thread have a lot more knowledge and experience w/ these engines and cars.

its a little high at idle, but not to worry maybe the previous owner put a high volume oil pump in the engine....those are the numbers I'm familiar with when the engine runs stock clearences and a high volume pump. average stock in good condition would be in the 20-35 psi range hot at idle and 55-60 hot at aprox 60-65 mph. If you are concerned run 10W30 or 5W30. When you fill the engine at your next oil change scratch a mark on the dip stick for the full level use it as a reference point. Get a friend to follow you and drive down a hill that makes you take your foot off the gas yet keeps you at aprox 35 mph, if they see blue smoke its likely your valve guide seals are allowing extra oil into the cylinders. You create a lot of engine vacuum doing that and that is when it sucks oil past the guide seals and into the chamber.

 

Ok well I had previously used 10w30 but I thought I should use what the Previous owner was using so this time I put in 10w40.I do remember running lower PSI with the 10w30.Also when I started my car and started reving it I noticed that it leaked oil on the floor as it was on, thats why I started to think that it was overfilled.It looks as if the previous owner hit a rock or something and put a hit on the oil pan right where the oil plug is.It doesn't leak too bad maybe couple drops here and there but today I noticed it leaked as it was running.

 

this could be a...rear main seal...leak or valve cover gasket leak.

 

As far as the oil stabilizer goes Lucas is a fantastic product. i use it in everything i drive including my Harly's. I have noticed it does raise the oil pressure a bit when its first added, so it should drop a little after a bit.

 

A extra quart of oil probably won't make any difference in pressure, but if oil is whipped by the crankshaft because level is too high, pressure can actually be lower... It's the viscosity(thickness) that is the major factor, by adding Lucas stabilizer your oil is likely close to 20W-50 now...

 

I think the rear main seal is leaking also but its mainly coming from the drain plug.I also noticed that my oil pan gasket is leaking so I might be taking care of the damaged oil pan,pan gasket, and rear main seal all at once
