I just joined the Forum. Great to be here! I'll give you some information on my Comet. Hopefully the pictures I have uploaded are attached to this thread. This is my 1972 non GT Mercury Comet. GTs have bucket seats. My car has a bench seat. I have included one old and unfortunately blurry picture of the car when I bought it from a guy here in Ohio over 18 years ago. Even after a thorough inspection before I purchased the Comet, once paint was removed for restoration purposes I discovered the quarter panels, both front fenders and both rocker panels needed replacing due to damage and rust. Also both doors were replaced with complete used Southern assemblies. Only minor work was required for the floor pans and sub-frame. The vast majority of body chrome was removed giving the car a much sleeker less cluttered look. The grill and headlight frames and back bumper have been painted with the body color of PPG black cherry metallic with a darker shade for the ghost front and rear deck panels. The Comet’s front suspension has a 1” ADDCO sway-bar and KYB gas shocks. The rear suspension is stock. A C4 transmission with a TCI 2000 RPM stall converter sends power to the limited slip 3:80 geared 8” differential. The car hooks up on BF Goodrich Drag Radials. The Comet’s power comes from a 302ci roller cam engine with AFR 165 Competition Package heads. The 302, now displacing 306ci has a stock bottom end with Keith Black light weight pistons, a Trick Flow stage 1 cam with 1.6 roller rockers, a Weiand Stealth intake manifold and Hooker full-length headers. A drop top air cleaner allows barely enough hood clearance for the K&N air cleaner top to just fit under the now functional hood scoop. Spark comes from a Ford Duraspark ignition. The Comet’s ¼ mile performance with full exhausts is 13.4 seconds at 102.9 mph with poor 2.0 second 60’ times. I could sure use some advice on improving my 60' times.
