Yeah I am going to go to the comet tail panel too. Mine was rotten out underneath the original maverick lights, looks like the foam backing held water in them or something. So I found a guy that will let me back half a comet for $200 and I will just use that tail light panel.:thumbs2:

:hide: resurrecting this old thread. I like the look of the upside down comet tail lights. IMO they look meaner. Altho I'm a post-apocalyptic exhaust fan too...

They look terrible upside-down. And why would someone do that?

Why not buy a Comet and put a Maverick front clip on it??? Be just as cheap and no welding/fitting. Not worth the headache IMHO.

But the front clip is the part I like best between the two... So we need to convince them to swap in the taillights and then swap in the front clip and turn all the mavericks into comets.

But seriously the comet tail lights are far superior to the maverick. But if I was gonna swap definitely swap to cougar lights.

I thought something was wrong with those first tail lights I just though nah Im still half a sleep.

Ive wanted a meverick for 20 years and as soon as I saw my comet for the first time I thought forget a maverick this comet is WAY cooler.
the two things that made me like the comet better than the maverick were the big hood and the tail lights. those tail lights are staying with my car until the death of me lol
although those cougar and bobcat lights do look real good on comets

I just think Comet tail lights the correct way kinda look like droopy eyes... Like Eeyore's been hanging out with Cheech :2cents:

    To each their own..

If you removed the gas cap, would a third set fit in between the L and R? I'm trying to think if the light housings are the same? Two lenses in the middle with back-up lights and four outer ones all red would be pretty sharp. I guess you could try cyclone tailights too, with two housings of three?

Just shooting in the dark here.

That is exactly what I did to mine. I swapper out the fenders, the hood, grill and valance and front bumper. I don't like the look of the comet front end but the maverick one is great. I did keep the comet GT hood scoop though. Couple of my friends call it the MOMET!
