this a video a good friend of mine shot for me of me starting up my 302 for the first time after over a years worth of hard work, it didnt run long due to some fuel and battery issues but i will have it all sorted out soon, im Marcus by the way there is a metal on metal sound in the video that im worried about if anyone can tell me where they think its comming from i would greatly apreciate it
Sounded like the starter dragging on the flex plate to me. Not long enough to tell exactly what it was. Sounds a little over stock to me.
yeah its just a little over but not much, started it with open headers so it was super loud, gonna check for any flexplate damage tomarrow
Defiantly a varying sound when cranking(can mean low compression on one or more cylinders), that plus the puff out the carb when it first fired makes me wonder if it has a valve adj too tight...
dunno .........the puff could have come from fuel i poured into the carb, i pored some through the vents and into the mouth of the carb before starting
I agree with Rthomas sounds like your timing is off quite a bit. Almost like your off a tooth on the distributor.
I agree Timing is off, its kinda hard to find out what noises are with the open headers, but it sounds good. this is a video of mine from this spring after rebuld start up W/open headers http://youtu.be/NMSDlgzx6aE
No idea from the video. I would try advancing though first. And get a vacuum gauge hooked up. even a momentary reading should be enough information.
All you'll get is a backfire if timing is a tooth off... The pop back through the carb could be timing, will be slow if that's the problem... If it cranks hard when hot, the timing is too far advanced...
