I just swapped in a V8 from the six...trying to get the pumps pulleys together. Will a six cyclinder power steering pump fit the v8 bracket and will the pulley line up? I used headers and there is no room for the hoses, what did you guys do? Thanks
Going through the same thing on the wifes car. If your car has a female pressure hose fitting connection you shouldn't have to much of a problem. Rock Auto has hoses to fit. If your pump has the male pressure fitting (like mine does) you may have an issue. I am waiting for a new hose p/n PSH35573 from carquest to try. Also you may have to bore out the power steering hose bracket top bolt hole to fit the larger diameter bolt that goes in the head. As for the pulley I put on a larger pump pulley to slow the pump speed down. Good luck with your swap. Mark
p/s hoses Thanks Mark, Yes my Orig. pump from the six has the male 45 degree fitting. I was hoping to use it with a V8 p/s bracket. I was worried about pulley alignment, hadn't considered the pulley diameter. where do your hoses run? My hoses wont fit between the Headman Headers and the tower. I was thinking of trying to route them under the motor mount/block area. If all else fails I will visit the hydraulic supply store and get custom hoses.
My custom pressure hose (1) cost me $80.00 :16suspect, but I was able to run the hoses down alongside the frame stands where they belong to get to the control valve, the return hose I found a long one in the Pick N Pull that worked, BTW my blue Grabber had a mount at the frame stand for the hoses and it started out as a 250 I6 car.
hoses On my 75 they run under the engine mount on the frame. On the wifes 70 the hose was just a bit to short to reach the pump if I ran it under the frame. I will know about the hose from Carquest tomorrow am. If you order the hoses from Rock Auto they are for the pump with the female pump end. Unfortunatly advance no longer carries the pump and due to Hurricane Sandy, Napa can't check to see if they have one available. The pump bracket looks the same on both the six and my v8 but I haven't pulled the v8 bracket to measure both.
pumps which pump are you running? i see there is a V8 pump and a six pump. the six pump does not fit the V8 pump brkt. I tried. Rock Auto has both pumps and it seems as the V8 uses a female port and the six has a male port.
power steering pump I know my v8 has a female port and the 6 does have a male port. I have actually had an issue getting a v8 pump, rock auto offers a rebuild service for your old pump (no new ones availabe). Advance auto parts no longer carries a pump to fit our car, Napa nothing available, Autozone nothing available, same with Car Quest. As for it not fitting the v8 bracket mine bolted right up go figure? I ended up straightening out the hard line on the power steering hose and custon bending it ober the top of the oil filter. Works for now i just have to get a custom hose made or get lucky at the local yards or pic and pull.
