Im looking to do the 8 to 10 point conversion on my 72 and was wanting the A pillar down bars to run through the top of the dash and not in front of the dash. Has anyone here have pics of their 10 pt cage and or used any conversion kits that position the down bars more forward, closer to windshield or will this need to be a custom fit conversion.

I will be keeping the original dash and feel like it gives it a cleaner look if the bars run down through the dash. Jegs has a conversion kit but the guy on the phone didnt think the bends would allow the bars to move forward enough.

Im not through making phone calls yet but wanted to post here to see if I could get some helpful info.

Get in touch with S&W Race cars, they will probably be able to help you out.

That's a great ideal, I just finished a 14 Pt. in my 71 and the pilar drops in front of the head light / Wipers but in my case they won't be used. I think your looking at a custom Fab job. Going from a 8 Pt. Bar to a 10 Pt. Cage is hard since it's already installed there is no off the shelf kit.

Front A piller bar made in 2 pieces using a sleeve to weld them together and will later also be pinned - too many angles for the tubing bender to be done in one piece

Dummy dashboard was hacked up and used to fit the dash around the A piller bars

Template was made using the dummy dash and then it was a lot easier to get my original dash to fit real tight

Yes, good job mav1970. Theres not much room there were it meets the dash and you have made it work. Thats excactly what I had in mind. Thanks for sharing the pics.

No problem - I hope there are some ideas that might help you. I built a lot of stock car cages, where I had a lot of room, but this was the first street cage I ever built and it was a tight challange. :)
