so im in the process of swapping in a 302 into my mav. when clutch time came around i noticed my clutch fork was almost worn through where the push rod from the pedal touches it so i decided to buy a new one. ive been to 2 separate ford only parts stores and nobody has any idea what this thing is from. it doesn't match any pictures or parts anybody has. this is the one i got from my core engine. its an early 70's block with a 4 barrel intake, 289 flywheel and (i guess ) clutch. this is the replacement part i got but it has a different end on it and is a hair longer from pivot to where the clutch pushrod touched.
The top pic looks like a Mustang/Maverick/Fairlane 250-351 fork http://mustangtek.com/clutchfork/D0DA-7515-B.html The bottom pic looks like a 200 six fork http://mustangtek.com/clutchfork/C7ZA-7541-D.html http://mustangtek.com/clutchfork/Clutchfork.html
I dont THINK the outer part of it matters as long as your pivot rod sits tight in the spot its supposed to and the end has a place for the return spring to connect to. is this right? I think as long as the inner for is the same or atleast is the same basic shape it will be ok? forgive me for not knowing for sure Ive only owned one manual vehicle and that was years ago and kinda rigged so what I had may not have been "right" but it worked as long as the pivot rod or whatever I could use to substitute would fit in that groove.
Yeah thats what i figured when i purchased the replacment fork you saw in the second pic, i was just wondering what the old part was from. The dent area where the pushrod sits is much bigger than the replacement and sits about 1/2 an inch closer to the pivot. Otherwise they are the same
I don't think the "hair longer" part of the fork will matter much as long as the clutch rod doesn't go from being straight to being too much on an angle, it still attaches to the throw out bearing and pivot point the same and the rod seats into it the same
there was no part numbers on it, just a ford logo on the back. the mustangs unlimited early mustang part didn't match this one either. it had a different end on it. maby it was changed to a newer style and the stopped making the older one. maby its a valuable part!
The 144-200 six forks have a smaller cup for the smaller linkage than a 250-V8 fork. The push rod has to push straight...if it pushes on an angle it will bind and also wear out the fulcrum and cause clutch problems. Do you have any part numbers on either the old or new fork?
the mustangs unlimited part number for the new fork i got was F1364 02. its listed as a 65-68 289-302 mustang/cougar tool. the old fork had no numbers that i saw
Agreed, to the best of my memory that same fork was in a '69 Fairlane with 351 & 4-speed toploader, I parted out back in the '80s... I would not remember but the cast iron bellhousing, fork and 11" flywheel was still around here till a couple years ago...
Master Parts Catalog says 70 Mustang and 70-71 Fairlane with 250-351 is the same part number, D0DA-7541-B, as Maverick with 302. The 65-68 Mustang is different part numbers C5OZ-B is 9-1/4" long (before 2/15/68) or C8OZ-A is 10-1/2" long after 2/15/68. The D0DA-B part number was replaced with D3DZ-A around December '74. The Catalog does't say how long the D0DA-B or D3DZ-A is/was/should/might/could be.
