Normally I would agree with you.............to a point, but the Coyote motor which is pretty much complete except engine control.................you could never find a better Ford platform to start with......newest technology and only weighs 435lbs.........and with a little CNC porting on the stock heads(Boss 302) you can expect 450hp............ain't bad for a motor than has 11.1CR, can turn 7000rpm and can run on 87 pump gas. Ford also has their Aluminator motors that have all the good parts, forged crank, H beam rods, forged pistons in 11.1/12.1 and 9.5 for some serious boost. This 5.0 and its 5.4 brother are tearing up the drag strip in with more than one CobraJet turning in the mid to low 8's............and a street driven Coyote Mustang (3850lbs and running 275 drag radials) is turning 9.0's at 155 in the 1/4. If I ever remove the towers in the Maverick...................well.........a Mod Motor would probably find its way there. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you already have a motor and all the good parts..................and you find that one GOOD machine shop (ones that have built winning Race Motors and have the proof with real dyno sheets to prove it), well it is probably better than a crate motor because more time has been spend blueprinting and fitting the motor............and although I have never wrench'd the inside of a Mod Motor............I know some pretty reputible shops in SoCal and elsewhere that could build a killer motor and I would be right there at their side while they did the build.

First, because I like carb's and it look's a lot neater than fuel injection and second because I can..............................IMHO So............which looks better, fuel injection/w new style supper charger or carb's??????
Bah I like the looks of fuel injection over carbs any day... and as for how about an old school blower with a kinsler bug catcher on top
Priority is always HP. Yes, driveability is better with fuel injection............but unless you are talking about huffing the motor............then I would agree...........but naturally aspirated at WOT..............I think you'd be splitting hairs...IMHO
Bah Hum Bug.....................you got me there! Yes, the "Poser" electronic fuel injection with ole school looks great....................and so does the 671 with fuel injection.
I love cars with carbs on them they just look when I see these newer mustangs open there hood all I see is plastic. I want to see a huge carb or two sitting on top of a massive super charger and to top it all off I like the spacers that go under the super chargers to raise everything up to eye level lol. when I think of a hot rod or race car I think of that big blower sticking out of the hood another thing you cant get with fuel injection is the whoowhooooooo when the trans kicks down and that carb really opens up. I remember my dad saying they used to turn the breather cover upside down to make there cars sound like theyre really gunning that carb when all they had was stock motors I say theres nothing like hearing them carbs open up thats half the fun of driving a fast car
this is very true. Otherwise.. all the horsepower nuts would be injected. We know that's not the case at all and even the engine masters challanges are a good view to a kill for direct comparisons between the 2 setups. Now.. if we get into direct injection comparisons here?.. that's a totally different ballgame. An efficient carb/manifold setup, albeit heavily engineered as it may be.. can do better then some may think but just takes longer to get it there, is all. A dry manifold is much more forgiving.. and with an ECM based setup.. you just plug in the laptop and start tuning around those limitations(not unlike a carb'd setup in that regard). Whereas the carb'd version requires you to dig out the handtools which some new gen guys are starting to resist more and more these days. Personally.. if I don't smell gas on my rags and hands after I'm done tuning.. I imagine that I've left something on the table for potential gains and revisit it yet again. Which is all part of the fun, IMHO.
