That thing is going to look awesome with the gas cap and tail lights you are using! I like it but i don't think it will go with what i plan on doing. I don't think you will have any problems with selling them. Keeping them in stock might be a problem! I say make them and sell 'em!!!!!:thumbs2:

First off, let me start by saying I have no issue with you or anyone else in particular here. I say that because I don't want to come off like I am attacking or getting pissy with anyone specifically.

When I asked for people to chime in, I was actually looking for some thoughts on having a mold made or something of the like. Not about the look of the part. I have zero interest in making other styles for me or anyone else for that matter. Now or in the future.

This is far too time consuming. I have no plans on becoming an entrepreneur. I really have no plans on selling this part, that is not why I made it.
Personally, I hope none of you raise your hands and wants one. I like being unique and having that "one off" part all to myself.

I made this part to my specifications to fit my style and my needs. That's it. I know there are an awful lot of "me's" here. But I made the part based on my vision for me. I respect other thoughts on things. If someone doesn't like what I have done, and when done looks at my car and hates it, I accept that. It is again my vision, it's what I want.

    Glenn

Same old same old. Every time somebody wants to make a new Maverick part, there's always the same things said, they want it different, don't like how this looks, too much money, etc. It's no wonder nobody wants to make parts anymore, just too much hassle.

I toyed with the idea of making fender extensions to put a Grabber spoiler on the big bumper cars. After seeing how others were treated after they had an idea of a new or revised part, I decided it wasn't worth the effort. I have a little knowledge of mold making, and the time involved, so it just wasn't worth it. Like Craig said, you might sell 10, but if you have to make and sell 200 to get your investment back, it ain't worth it.

I think you'd be better off Glenn to just make yourself one and let everybody else drool over it. If they want one, they can do like you did, make it themselves. Sad to say, but you just can't please everybody. I know you were just trying to be helpful, but there are too many owners out there that will badmouth anything you try to do. One guy was investing a lot of his own money into steel reproduction Maverick parts a few years ago. Even had some guys sign up to be dealers for him. When he ran into money troubles, you should have seen how quick some turned on him, saying they knew it would never work, there would never be any reproduction Maverick parts, etc. Things were fine until he hit a snag, then shtf and it turned into a free for all around here, with many jumping on the guy. He doesn't come on here anymore, and I don't blame him.

Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth.....

Love it. Looks quite aggressive. The center bump sets it off from being a "factory" acessory.

You have done an amazing job, when I get down to cosmetics, this and one of those carbon fiber hoods is DEFINITELY on the list!

Oh and some new wheels...oh and those window louvers I am going to get made on a waterjet ;)

Personally.. I disagree with ford84 in most of what he said in the above. If people really cared about making short run parts like this for mass acceptance?.. they would never get made.. and life would be a lot more boring at car shows, IMHO. Custom parts and fabrication is what seperates the special cars from the typical restoration/restomod.

The simple fact is that there aren't ANY cosmetic based parts in existence for ANY model car that EVERY SINGLE PERSON WILL LIKE. Just human nature.. plain and simple. And let's be realistic here.. as with ANY classic car.. the purists probably won't like the notch.. and the "did it my way" customizers will be jumping all over it. It's not like we have so many options with these cars to begin with, so I'd say "take it or leave it" as you mentioned earlier. Then there's the other simple fact that this thread only reperesents a TINY little cross section of potential buyers for a part like this. If I had the time to do it.. I would surely make the mold for you just because I think it's that good from what I've seen so far. :thumbs2:

I think that the overwhelming response has been that it would sell enough units to be worth spending the $1,000-$1,200(long lasting mold with support frame).. or $600-$800(for a basic one with decent quality materials) in making the mold for it. Unless you need that mold to be reinforced and thick enough to last 10 years.. it will more than pay for itself in less than 1 year quite easily. You can also do what many others do with molds which is to invest less initially and then repair/reinforce as it ages through the years, which still beats starting from scratch sometimes.

Of course you won't be able to quit your dayjob from the several hundred percent profit margins you'll likely get from it over time.. but knowing that others out there are more than happy to have your personally tailored brainchild bolted to their car would be reason enough for me to copy some one off custom part like this. I myself would look at it as a kind of a "sharing and payback" for the ones who really like it or may have helped me out through the years. Not that you should feel as if you owe anyone with such high level of payback.. but that's just me and there's great pride to be had from doing something like that. :)

If you build it.. they will come.

LOL.. sorry.. couldn't resist that one. :D

Glenn, sorry this has turned into such a I like it this way I like it that way type of thread as I know you just wanted a show of hands of how many people would like one the WAY IT IS and what a possible selling price would be.

If I were you I would just wash my hands of the whole thing and spend the time working on your car

Please don't throw the baby out with the dirty bath water.

Ignore the critics and work with those who are interested in what you offer.

It looks good, I'd price it around 250 - 300.

I really like the spoiler ... the added height and the notch .... very good. I think the notch keeps it from looking too tall overall. It also reminds me of an early 70s funny car spoiler ... the Blue Max Mustang IIRC.

Would I buy one ... not for my Comet the way that I am building it. Striving for a factory look (but better in many aspects).

I would be interested in it if I was building a Mav or Comet that was far more customized. I might want to tackle that after this one is "done". They are never really done ... so there might be your answer in my case. Realistically, it would be a long way off into the future.

Still think that spoiler is really cool, as is, and odds are you would have an audience for copies of it.
