Oh and has anyone ever cover the trunk to make it level? I didn't now how good of a idea it would be with gas tank there. I really hate having a big dip if there so if i replace gas tank shouldn't need to get it out for another 30 years :) any idea's or comments?

Nope, unfortunatly the 70 tanks are not being reproduced, and they are harder to come by because of the drop in design unique to 69.5 and 70 Mavs. Your best bet is to place a wanted ad here and hopefully someone has one you can buy. Good Luck.

The one I have now is fine Its just I don't know whats in there. It sat for about 2 years is what i was told before i started driving it past 6 month. LOTS of tank of gas been threw it but when i get new motor wanted a new one. any idea's best way to clean it out? If not what about cutting the middle of the gas tank out and putting fuel cell in and then inclose top of it with sheetmetal or something?

Check with a local radiator shop. There are several around St.Louis that will clean out and seal your tank.

I had to clean out my '70's tank. Just pull it, drain it, take out the sending unit and dump in a can of that stuff that coats the inside. Dries hard as a rock, like epoxy. I spilled some on my driveway and it's still there after almost 15 years. If your tank is really dirty or rusty they also have a cleaner/etchant that you slosh around first. You'll never have to worry about rust or pinholes again.http://www.por15.com/subcat.asp?id=42

Theres nothing wrong with gas tank looks good from trunk side and under car. when i go to put in new motor I didn't want to have any rust or anything going threw there. I change fuel filter all the time but I could really care less about this motor cause of all the problems it has giving me. I don't know but was just a guess that you need to flush out gas tank like you do oil, tranny etc..
