I viewed this link. I like this setup. I have the DS2 on my car. If I ever were to change this type setup wud definetly be at the top of my upgrade list. I wud like to axe the dizzy; I have to clean the contacts and the rotor tip a few times a year to make sure the car don't leave me stranded. Even tho my car is just a driver/cruizer " I like this setup" and wud prob. be overkill for me..I read the insturctions and impressed. Im like u Barry; I want to know a bit more abt the product and cus service b4 investing this kind of money. I wud prefer something like this over the cd type units w/ all the boxes and stuff.

The only thing I'm not sure about, I don't see a way to connect vacuum advance to this system for vacuum advance mileage improvement. I've also been looking at the MegaJolt system that has a vacuum (MAP) port. It uses stock Ford EDIS 8 module, coils and crank sensor. I figure I could do that for a little over $200.

I think that $200 figure you have is lacking on the crank trigger.. I know Mashori was planning on running an EDIS 8 on his megasquirt on his car. I know they had to put a trigger ring on the harmonic balancer and they had to build a bracket for the trigger placement. If you have a 5.0 you could use an explorer harmonic balancer but that requires using the explorer timing cover and all the belts and pullies it also does have the factory provision for the crank position sensor... But there is no place to put your dipstick.
Another type of setup you can look at are the aftermarket units MSD has one I think there are a few others out there

I already have a line on a used pair of coil packs, sensor and module for $75. I'm not using the rear section of my crankshaft pulley (no power steering) and can machine the teeth into the edge of that for a trigger wheel.

I would have to start questioning the rigidity of the pully after you cut the 36 required slots. Or else if you have enough mass in the pulley material to actuate the trigger itself.

But hey if you can try it go for it, I would be curious to see if it would work:thumbs2:

I am wondering on some of the pix where the trigger whl was welded to the crank pulley wud throw the rotating assembly out of balance.

I had a good friend that used the old MSD system.............which this is designed after....................and had nothing but trouble, actually locked it up and not only destroyed the MSD unit but also his roller cam.
Personally I feel that a crank trigger type system is far more accurate and will give better performance.........................IMHO

I'm running serpentine pulleys so the unused belt area is pretty wide. At worst case I could machine my own trigger wheel and put in that area of the pulley. I see where some are using mid-90's 1.9 Escort wheels that press onto the pulley.

Can't speak toward your experiences, but for me...............and I've been using them since they originated.....................never had an issue and still using the
an 85805 distributor, 7AL-3 along with Pro Coil and wires..........................

Yeah, I can't claim to be the originator of that idea, a guy on their website did his that way, with pictures, and says it works fine.

I've had two of their boxes crap out on me, a CDI and and inductive box. I'm still running the Blaster II coil but now a Mallory HyFire VIA drives it. Like any other product line, some people have issues, some don't.

Guess I'm going ahead with the MegaJolt. Just picked up an EDIS 8 module, coils, pickup, and (if I need it) Taurus trigger wheel for $80. I should have an old distributor around here that I can cut down to fill the hole and drive the oil pump.
