I replaced timing chain and gears. The cover has a removable 3 inch black plastic piece that fits under the chain. But when I try to replace the cover this plastic piece hits the side of the chain and/or sprocket. Can't really see it in that position. Just for kicks I removed the plastic piece and the cover goes on fine. Can I leave it out?

I think not...it's the chain tensioner or keeps the chain from slapping the cover...:bouncy:
