I bought my 72 Maverick Sprint a year or so ago. It was stored at a friends house until recently. I knew the shock towers were cut up when I got it. Evidently a previous was going to make a drag car out of it. All under dash ac/heat components are gone. Looks as if they welded like perches? to mount a v8, and hacked off the inside side of the shock towers. It is a very solid car with a few dents and dings...no rust found. Looks like the floors were patched with flat metal. I was an I6 car with AC, but motor and all gone. Interior is pretty decent but needs redone but missing lower dash. Pretty complete car except for mentioned pieces. Now my question. Is it worth restoring or should I just part it out? I don't have the expertise to fix metal under hood. Any advice would be helpful. Sorry no pics yet, raining here and dont have any yet. I am not sure how to post anyways. Thanks for any advice/help. Brian
When you can...Post pics of whats been done to the towers...Its the only way to give you a definitive answer...Potentially, it may be repairable or soo bad it all needs to be cut out. At that point its time for a MII type front suspension. If you dont have access to a good welder and some fabrication skills be they yourse or a good friends...It may be time to part it out or sell it off whole...Too bad actually, sprints are few and far between. Good luck!!!
Sprints don't really bring anymore money than regular Mavericks, even though everyone thinks they are so special. Try to sell the car complete, and let the buyer figure it out.
Let's see some pics. Not too hard if you go to Gallery, there you will find the Upload button in the header bars. Accessing them is easy if you just use the "Insert" command under the smilies when posting. If doing a strict resto, you are probably asking for trouble. Other than that, it depends on your goals. I would not hesitate to cut back the shock towers, just dealing with a 302-based V8 ... makes it a lot easier to work on. But, I would like to see if the stock suspension is still viable with the work they did, and better decisions can be made from there.
First step. Register it. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=88440&highlight=sprint+registry Then give it to the guy who did the grabber in your images. That car looks very nice.
I did all that to my car because I'm installing a full cage and rod and customs front end kit. I want a little more room and handling for all of this. If your going to sell the car i might have be able to find some interested people out here.
What you have been posted can be fixed, if that is what you desire. What does the interior look like? If it is trashed....then there really is not much left to call it a "Sprint" anymore without spending a buch of money to bring it back.
Interior is all there except for AC/Heat stuff under dash and lower dash shelf. Seats need redone, panels are actually nice just needs overall cosmetic resto.
That car looks like a nice solid car - no need to part it out from what i see. If metal work isn't your thing, take it to a local welder and have him make the shock tower look like this .............. Now you will have more room to work on a nice V8. Original Sprints are awesome - but since you have to fabricate repairs to it anyway, may as well build it for fun .....
