    Update:

Got a crossmember from frank (worked great)

    Reused my c4 rubber mount

cut a hole for the shifter

put the speedo drive from the c4 into the t5.

Total time was about 12 hours to remove the c4 and get the t5 in.

Got a t5 from a local guy that knows a family member he swore up and down it was good. Put it in with my hydraulic setup, adjusted it, drove out of the shop and it sounded like it was crushing rocks. Shift into second at 2000 rpms and give it some throttle and it grinds like crazy and now wont shift into any gears...Look up the tag and its a 4cyl world class...It moves the car in 4th gear as normal but sounds nasty and I am sure it is junk.

So I am out 500$, have another junk transmission. This is getting ludicrous trying to find a good t5. I should start buying junk mustangs just for the transmissions.

The guy swore up and down it was a good transmission from a v8 car. 2 nights of fighting it and now my car is going to sit for another few months....

    I am sick of this.

how the hell do you guys keep motivated....This car is just a fun rat rod toy to drive around with and is becoming a car that sits for 9 months drives for 1 day then sits again.

What the hell do I do for a transmission short of buying a 1600$ Z from ford.

I am out 500$ and short of throwing it through the windshield of his truck next time I see him theres nothing I can do,

the first thing you should do is talk to him and say hey after getting it installed it turned out not to be any good and ask for your money back and tell him youll bring him the trans back DO THIS RIGHT AWAY. ( we both know that sucks and will most likely get you told to F off but try it maybe he thought it was good and will be a stand up guy and give you your money back if you give him the transmission back I would if I sold it to you but you wouldnt get a dime until I got it back)

    OR
you can take the guy to court. but thatll prolly get you no where fast. because hell say he didnt sell it to you or hell say he told you it wasnt so good. another thing you can do is if he has a facebook page you can let everyone of his friends know what kinda dirtbag the guy is and you can stand in front of his house or place of work with a sign saying he knowingly sold you a broken part make his life embarrassing as hell. post ads on craigslist about him selling junk parts saying theyre good. BUT all of this takes time and energy and could result in him saying youre harassing him and could possibly get you thrown in jail. so its kinda tough to say if he wont give you your $$ back.
there might be something the dept of consumer affairs can do since its $500 ?:hmmm::huh:

but really unless the guy cooperates youre pretty much SOL

buy a whole car that runs and is maybe smashed or wont pass smog but runs good take the t5 from it then you take the car to picknpull (or call them for transport) and get most if not all of your money back by selling whats left.

or buy from a mustang recycler and buy a warranty

you might find a complete car cheap and offer to trade it to the mustang recycler for a good transmission? as long as you have a title to whatever you buy there are a lot of options. I guarantee they would jump at the opportunity to give you a good transmission in exchange for a whole car.

good luck sorry to hear you did so much work and got burned.

What did you use for a pilot bearing? We put a 4cyl T5 on a 351 (don't ask), and since the input shaft was so small, we had a hard time finding the correct size.
Lol! I don't know how well it would go if you tried to sue him, without any paperwork, you'll just be wasting more time and money.
T5 rebuild kits are cheap, but a 4cyl T5 isn't the best behind a V8...but as with anything used, you've got to know what your buying, and it doesn't hurt to pull the lid off before you fork over the cash...:(

    Thanks for the tips everyone.

The tag was very very hard to read so I did not think it was even the tag with the id number on it. The input shaft on the trans had been changed to a v8 as i slid the pilot bearig on prior to install. Also it has a very high od when we checked it by rotating it.

He has a facebook that is a perfect idea!

15 times in two years i think id have a maverick to sell haha.

This car was meant to be quick and beat on around town. Not sit for 10 momths a year:rofl2:

It is rutheless here. People sit at pick n pull waiting on muatangs to come in and just strip them instantly.

The input shaft assly can't be changed without replacing the cluster and other gears as well... Sounds like it's maybe a 4 cyl trans case with V8 internals... Only difference in two are the input bearing, retainer & opening in the front of the case is larger on the 4cyl than a V8 unit...

The 1st gear in the 4cyl tran is going to be approx 4 to 1, vs 3.35 for a factory V8 trans... You can check ratio by turning the input shaft to see how many turns it makes to get one revolution on the output shaft...

BTW the nose for the pilot bearing is only slightly smaller on the 4cyl trans vs the V8, I've seen this trans swapped out without installing the correct pilot, no it's not a good idea...

Not for nothing but what kind of hydraulic set-up and are you sure it's properly adjusted?

I have the cnc master and slave. Cannot quite remember the bore. I get about 1.25" of throw at the fork. I can start it in drive with the clutch in and it starts without issue, also we adjusted the rod until it was easy to get into gear with the motor running. Pedal feels pretty good, and it would move the car progressively as the pedal was being released (smoothe linear engagement).

It worked PERFECT in reverse, out of the shop, into first (but sounded like it had freaking gravel in the trans and had insane gear whine), took off went into second (around 1500 rpm in 2nd) started giving it throttle got maybe 30% and it just popped? Grinds going into any gear but 4th. Fourth is fully operational still.

you should look into rebuilding the t5. it sounds like you may have 2 bad ones. this article has some really great info and even pdf of the factory repair manual for the t5. trans star http://www.transtar1.com/ should be able to get a rebuild kit and replacement broken parts.
nothing better than shifting than a freshly rebuilt t5!!!

The guy is coming over today he still swears that "it came from a v8 car I pulled it myself and we drove it and it worked great"

    >:{

apparently I have some recourse with the guy as he owes a family member some money.

So I guess I will be looking at buying a new t-5z in 5-6 months. Unless a good used t5 pops up near me. Any used one is 20 years old now so I am starting to believe "good" "used" does not exist.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I don't think my maverick is making over 350hp to the crank. Especially with my crappy edelbrock economy carb.

A rebuilt t-5 can be had at a local place for 850+450 core, and 750+450 core at another shop. I do not have a core if I return this one to the guy.

I found a local shop that says they can order me one for 1400 and get it in a week. They do tons of mustang work and are a ford racing dealer. He did shoot the price off the hip.

With a Z my highway rpm would be like 2300rpm at 70! Right now im at 3700!

Guess time to save my pennies.
