Good Morning !!! Ok so my son asked me yesterday IF a 4.1 motor in our 1975 Maverick (automatic) is fast and of course I did'nt have a clue so my question would be to y'all who has one or knows about it can you answer this for me please? Also this car has been sitting for quit some time and I need to know what would be the very first thing I should do to it ? Thanxs everybody for any help you can give me. It surely is appreciated !!!! MavyGirl
Compared to all the models on the road today, it's probably in the bottom 25%... But don't tell your son that...
I'd lower that to about 20%. Most 4 cylinders made these days would smoke you at lights AND on the highway. lol But.. depending on how old he is.. tell him it's "sporty". That'll help to confuse him a bit longer until he has more firsthand experience to figure out the truth. This reminds me of my son's question when he was sitting patiently next to his friend chatting with him before a band concert a few weeks ago and blurted out rather loudly.. "Dad!.. is our Comet a musclecar!?" I said.. "it will be when it's running again!". His friend then immediately yells out.. "Dang!.. you guys are lucky!.. you have 2 musclecars!". Funniest part was that my other "musclecar" is just a V8 Blazer hotrod. Silly kids. PS. I agre with 71Gold's suggestion. Might want to use premium gas to bring the old fuels octane leves back up a bit faster too. And don't forget to also check the tire pressures.
Welcome to the forum from West Virginia.I would tell him yes, it was one that had the potental. It was a sleeper most of all. THis was a car that could be fixed for less money today. The newer cars have to many electronics that when they go bad , you talk major money just to hook up to a computer. I would flush your fuel line out from the tank to the fuel pump inlet. Good luck.
at 16 I had a stock 250 and thought it was fast but in all honesty nearly all cars made in the last 10 years are faster.
I'm thinking he's just wondering if he was in a race with a ford explorer would he beat him to the finish line. He has a buddy who has a ford explorer 4.0 motor he said. I have no idea I told him but he sure wants to find out when this maverick gets finished back to where it can be driven..
I sold a 4.0 Explorer last night, not exactly a ball of fire... Since the Sploder is probably 500Lb heavier, guessing it would be a toss up if the Mav had a good tune...
