    I have a 65 comet 2dr post with a 302/big cam/full roller, C4/3500 stall, 9inch posi/373:1. Front disk brakes, 5lug. I am currently installing sub-frame connectors and a 6pt cage to stiffen the body. APPROX 3000lbs

I will be running steel wheels front and rear. I want to run skinny fronts and slicks on the rear but the rear fender-wells are stock. Suspension is pretty much stock and will be running a set of old-school slapper type traction bars.

My question is what size and brand tires work well front and rear?

I am on a tight budget, so is there a street tire (skinny) that will work on front? and what is a good and cheap radial slick for the rear?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had a 64 Comet (ex-drag car) and drove it on the street......loved that car.
I would look in wrecking yards or even Craigslist for 97 to present Mustang Cobra, Mach1, and I think the Bullet cars also had them..... spare tires. They are 17" wheels and will clear 13" discs and some where aluminum, my 97 had an aluminum spare wheel. Also, they are not speed rated like a normal spare which is only good to 55mph. A lot of guys use them as front skinny tires.

Drag racing on "donut spares" is dangerous and asking for trouble. You could use the wheels however and get proper tires for them.

The spare tires on the Mustang Cobra meet and have stamped on them OEM Tire Performance Spec and do have the same load specs as the
tire that came on the Cobra. I have been them used on LSR cars that were under 150mph and did pass SCTA tech when I was at Bonneville in 06.
I used them on my 97 when I took it to the drags..............they are not your standard OE "donut spares".............................IMHO

I never knew that. Learn something new every day I guess. I guess those are the exception.

you can put a 28x9 with no problem, a 30x9 will work but you may need to trim the front of the wheel well, there really isnt a Cheap radial slick, i would put on a set of mickey thompson or m&H bias slicks on some 8 inch wheels, they are more forgiving on a marginal suspension, and you will get more runs out of them.
