I am running a 16 gallon plastic Jaz fuel cell - It sits in a steel box I built for it since the cell will hang down through the trunk floor the same way my stock 70 gas tank did.

Based on all of the talk about electric fuel pumps being "pusher" type pumps, I mounted an AN fitting low to the front of the cell so the fuel will free flow to the pump - the cell has a texture built into the surface of it and the fitting is sealing only against inside and outside white nylon washers

My questions to those who might have done something similar is: did the cell leak? Is there a better way to make sure the fitting is going to seal on the plastic cell than just the washers?

    Thanks in advance, Bob

thats not gonna work to well, you need the fitting on the rear of the cell with a sump that pumps not gonna be able to pull the fuel when you launch all the fuel is gonna rush away from that fitting

Inside of the cell, attached to the inside threads of that bulkhead fitting, is a steel tube that reaches all the way to the rear of the cell and is bent down to 1/4 inch from the cell floor - car is only for the street so no sump involved:)

well im just try'n to tell ya the proper way to do it your suppose to mount the pump down stream and lower than the outlet so that the pump is gravity fed, if your not gonna race it i guess it'd work but i see it putting alot of extra unneeded strain on the pump.
Its your car and ya can do it how ya want

    Have a good day..

You can see my blue bulkhead fitting in the photo is slightly higher than the inlet on the fuel pump (where the red plastic cap is) which is designed just as you mentioned so it doesn't have to lift the fuel out of the cell. I just didn't want to mount all of this stuff at the very rear of the car to be damaged by even the slightest impact.

the inner surface of the cell should be a lot smoother than the outer surface. you should have a washer on the inside and it should seal.

It is glass smooth on the inside and, yes there are 2 of the sealing nylon washers. I was thinking of capping off the AN fitting and filling it with 16 gallons of water and see what happens :)
