I believe I may have posted this before but allow me to attempt one more time. I am looking for the "Stripe Kit" which would be used for the 1970-75 Mercury GT. I found the "side stripe kit" but can't find where you can order the "Hood Stripe". I know you can probably paint it or order some material and cut and shape...but there has to be somewhere or someone who sales the "Hood Stripe Kit". Another quesiton, the rear tail light pan....do they sale a strip kit for that or should one simply paint it to match the stripes? Thanks.

I've not seen anyone that reproduces the hood stripe and most who restore them just paint them on.

and I'm not really sure what you mean about the "rear tail light pan".. since no Comet GT that I've seen came stock with a stripe in that area because they are simply blacked out.

Closest you'll see for anything resembling rear stripes is on the rearmost(back face) section of a Maverick grabbers spoiler.

I should have worded it differently. I am considering the striping for my 75 Maverick. It currently has a side stripe similar to the Mercury GT, I wanted to match that look with the Mercury GT Hood Stripe. As for the back tail pan, as you said....on the Grabber you will note the tail pan is usually "blacked out" or sometime color matched with the Grabber striping...so...if you look at my Maverick, it is solid balck with the silver side stripe., I want to match that stripe on the hood and then color match the rear tail light pan.

This is probably what I will go with...this look. I fully understand I can paint the strip, but since there were "side stripe kits" availablbe I just assumed that there would be "Hood Stripe KIts" out there, apparently not.[IMG]

Another option is to go with the "Maverick Grabber" hood stripe but leaving the "Grabber" wording off...so if those (Maverick Grabber no scoop hood stripe) are available let me know.

Some one correct me but I think all comet GT's hood stripes were painted on at least all I ever owned were.

you know?.. I think that I've seen the repro newer Grabber hood stripe like that one.. but I'll be damned if I could remember where it was right now.

But why would you go with that stripe on a Comet hood when it doesn't fit the front bulge that a Maverick hood has when compared to the Comet hood? Dunno.. maybe others have done it but I personally think you car would look much better if it was kept in the GT theme.

As for the rear treatment you speak of?.. it would be exactly like this when finished. I really LOVE the look of this members car and wish that he had higher resolution pic's for this viewpoint. Look's killer!

EDIT: Still don't think it will work.. but here you go for now.

I think I understand your position...but my car is a Maverick....it currently has the Comet GT "Side Stripe" and I am planning to install a Comet GT Hood Scoop, paint the scoop black to match the car but then accent it with the Mercury GT type "Hood Stripe"....I think it would look good.

I think you will find that the shape of the Comet GT hood stripe will not fit on the Maverick hood. Totally different hood shape.

I assumed that or knew the hoods were not exactly the same shape....I want the look, sort of a Maveromet....look (thats a Maverick/Comet Look).....since the car already had the "Interceptor" side stripe and that strip is similar to the Comet GT side stripe I thought I would do the hood similar to the GT, pluse with the rear tail light pant silver...I just think it would set it off and put my "finger prints" on it since I did not do the original custom - restoration work (we know who did). So we will see how she turns out. Pics will be coming.

I like your idea of the 1974-1975 Grabber hood stripe without the word GRABBER in it. Maybe get it made with the word INTERCEPTOR in it.
