Heading up to Detroit tomorrow a.m. with a bunch of guys from my church. It's something we've been doing for the last 3-4 years. Long ride (4 hours), but this show is one of the best in N. America. I still have fond memories of going with my dad when I was 13 yrs. old or so. Those were the days of the Ford Custom Caravan, and the original (vs. clones) Barris, Cushenbery, Winsfield, Alexander Bros., Roth masterpieces. Nice to see quite a few of them being restored. A couple of years ago, they had the Ala Kart, the Lil' Coffin, the Car Craft Dream Rod and a clone of the Outlaw on display.
I'm heading there today, make sure you stop by and see "Will 83" and his 32 Ford. http://www.tbirddeuce.com/T_Bird_Deuce/Welcome.html Car-nut and I will be meeting up, along with Shawn Simpson today, I can't wait!!
Wow what a day! I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't been yet. Lots of Maverick/Comet guys there. Met up with car-nut and his Dad, and had an enjoyablebwalkmaround looking at some amazing cars!
My tour of the show was decidedly rushed, as we were 4 hours from home. We got to the show at 12:30 due to congestion at the tunnel (cutbacks in border crossing employees and March Break travellers heading South). Then when we decided we'd better head out at 4:30, we had to wait for 2 hours to catch a bus that would take us back across the border. Got home after 10 p.m. All in all a great show, but I didn't see a single Maverick/Comet. Really enjoyed seeing the past Ridler award winners. Will post some pics when I get back from Virginia. It's currently 4:38 a.m., and we're preparing for the 12 hour drive to Williamsburg (estimated departure time; 6:00 a.m.)
