Just simply consider the source of the comments. There will always be those simple minded who can't accept anything outside of the 'norm', so to speak. Bottom line...who gives a crap what they think!!
You should have walked over, taken a look at his wife\girlfriend\boyfriend\whatever, laughed, then asked him the same question. I'm sure he would have been a bit upset, but the point is exactly the same. To me cars are just like women, meaning that not everybody likes the same type and what may appeal to one guy is lost on another. Furthermore I really tend to believe that your car is a direct reflection of the owner's personality and even moreso with old cars. For instance I have my Mustang Fastback, which fits me perfectly as I am very outgoing and a bit of a showoff. OTOH my wife, who is a bit more down to earth and pratical loves her Maverick that she inherited from my dad. All in all neither car is any better or worse, they both compliment our individual personalities. Seriously, who gives a crap what these guys think.
Mavtricks71, I hear you but I do get good reviews also. An example was this past Memorial Day I had to drive 5 mph through an annual festival while out for a run. People walking all over the street. A guy in the middle of the street gave me a thumbs up and get this, 4 or 5 laddies waiting to cross hollored nice car dude. And like the others say, the true car fans will appreciate all cars and the work that goes into them.
Same here, I am usually the only Maverick at shows and get a lot of compliments on my car, and everyone always has a Maverick story whether it's "my mom had one of those cars when I was in school" or "My Buddy had one in High School that would roast anyone around town. I've gotten one remark that pissed me off but the guy didn't know what he was talking about. He said I don't think I would drive anything that would blow up when hit in the rear, "THAT'S A PINTO DUMBA$$" Any way I've had lots of Mustangs and they are nice cars, I've had Novas, Chevelles, a Demon, I've even had a Caprice Classic Station wagon with a 454, I LOVE all cars I can find something I like about all makes and models, some people like cruisers some 2 doors, some 4 doors, Hot Rods, low riders, classics, whatever.......although I can't get into the import thing, but I can respect they are getting some pretty respectable power out of those 4 bangers. The point is idiots are gonna be idiots, they usually dont even have a car themselves or it's always "I'm gonna this"........ or "my cars at so and so's getting a frame off restoration"........Right,.. whatever...... just keep movin...........I think there is a real Yenko on the back row you may want to see........ and then they leave in their mom's Hundai Sonata with a APC sticker on the back glass. There are always gonna be people like that, That's why aftermarket companies are in buisness.....every time someone say's something about my car, I go out and buy something that will make it FASTER and blow their doors off. :bananaman
Had one Mustang, a '93 LX, and that was enough. Take my Mavs any day. However, that new Mustang, hmmm..............................
I have both a Maverick and a Mustang. They both have their merits. Mavericks are Fords version of the Nova, albeit without big blocks or a 60s performance legacy. Not sure why they don't get any respect, although I suspect that the number of 6 cylinder cars produced has something to do with it. My 69 fastback is in primer, and my Mav is really presentable. In spite of that, my Mustang gets ten times the attention that my Mav does. Go figure. Doesn't matter to me though. I don't choose a car to please other people.
around here, I find it almost commical, I've been to many cruise nights with my rat, and I see a lot of people passing by the nice stangs and camaros and such. They seem to be drawn towards different cars, because, lets face it, we are all tired of seeing the same stuff at every show. I get a lot of "wow, what kind of car is that, Who made it, what year, and that's pretty cool, keep going, don't stop" type comments, makes me feel pretty good, since I wasn't sure if I made a wise purchase back in april for $500. I wanted an F100, but I settled for what was cheap, thinking maybe I could do a little work to it and sell it to buy a truck, but it has grown on me. Shaun
well i get a lot more compliments then negative, i love mavericks i will own my grabber forever, im glad there not as popular as mustangs , im usually only maverick at car shows
I have always liked the Mavericks and when I had the chance to by my Grabber I jumped at it. At a Ford carshow last summer, other then the late model Mustang crowd, lots of people stopped and looked at my Mav. Everyone had good things to say about it. On the way home I guy in a super looking Torino with a Cobra jet gave me the thumbs up sign. True car guys know how good a Maverick is. The rest ar clueless.
