hi all, i have a few questions about what type of engine i can put in a 76 maverick, ive been looking around the forum for a while now and came up with nothing, so please no comments like " well just check the forum there is lots of info about that on here" no there is nothing like that on here so dont write stupid ass comments when someone needs help some people should not be on here if all they know,,, is well just check the forum, you think i have check it already really come on! well that my rant sorry for that but it needed to be said.

so what type of engine is good and what year of engine is good like a 302 engine what can you get before you get into trouble like would a 1995 mustang 302 fit or work in a maverick? what year would the 351w or 351c work? what other types can i look for even if i need to modify the body which i know with the 351 s you need i little more room thats fine i want to know all my opitions and maybe it would help some other people out as well. thank you all for all your help and 95% of the people are really helpful on here and i thank you for all your time to read and writh all your info you share and know.

Some subjects have been discussed so often that most of the times a search of the forum will yield 99% of your answers without getting into it fresh - that is why you might get the search suggestion so please don't think that anyone is brushing you off.

As far as what I can help you with, I never owned a 302 but I know it will simply bolt in because your car came with one as an option. I have a 1972 351 4 bolt main CJ Cleveland in my car stroked to 393 cubes. I originally had the engine mounted in the stock engine bay with no modifications to the towers. No room for anything. Some of the header bolts laid against the side towers. I had to use very expensive swap headers from Tubular Automotive which didn't fit well at all. Heavy engine calls for upgrades in braking and spring rates. I was devoted enough to keeping that Cleveland that I went crazy re-designing my Maverick around it instead of going with something that would fit like a 289-302. Clevelands prior to 72 had better intakes, higher compression and closed chamber heads as an option but any year Cleveland can be built any way you want it to be.

Hope this helps some - Bob :)

like someone said you can make anything work depending on your skills there are a few mavericks on youtube that have 460's in them.

as for me I went with what would not require me to modify my car in massive ways just to accommodate the engine so I went with a dart 302 block and had it bored .040 over stroked to become 347 cui and added a super charger giving me roughly 1000 ponies to play with. now I just have to make the car able to put some of those ponies to the ground :Handshake:

money is also a factor as my 347 stroker has cost me way more than I ever thought I would spend on the whole car

very true,,,,, thats why i want to go over all my options so i get the best bang for my buck. ya so reading the forums said that you can put a newer mustang engine into a merverick lower then 95 or so. i might go with that and then put performance parts on should be enough for what i want the car for.
