Man that car is SOLID...Nice work!!! Yes pull everything you can off it to make it a bare rolling shell...That includes the column and peadal assembly...The paint shop will paint em if you leave em in there. Tag and bag everything...I mean everything...pull any brackets, clips, fasteners that dont need to be body color. AS for the brakes...Pull the master cyl and lines/prop valve under the hood. Leave the rest of the lines unless, like Dave mentioned you are going to replace em all. Leave the stuff at the wheels alone...You dont need to go there yet. Told ya pulling the engine was simple!!!
Thanks for the help everyone. Yep it was a pretty solid car to begin with. Imagine it in the hands of somebody who knows what they are doing . It was worth the trip out to California to get it. The seller told me he couldn't understand why I kept on asking about rust until he realized where I was coming from. It does have a hole the size of a quarter in the driver's rear quarter, also a rear shock brace broke and somebody did a poor job of re-welding it. These are all issues I am willing to pay someone else to deal with. I figure once it is in the shop I'll start messing with all the little pieces. I am also going to give rebuilding the transmission a try and will clean and paint the engine. Ted
"Imagine it in the hands of somebody who knows what they are doing . " Looks like your doing a pretty good job yourself so far Ted...
Haven't updated in a while but a lot of progress has been made. I decided that if I am going to do this, I should do it right the first time. So a few weeks ago I trailered the rolling shell over to the Doll's shop. They have it now and will be doing the body and paint work for me. I'll be posting the update pictures as they send them to me. Here is picture of when I dropped it off.
Here is the driver fender well that has been cleaned up and had undercoating put on it. It will be finished with a gloss black and clear.
More pics from Jean and Dale after removing the paint and uncovering all the old bodywork. No rust except in the quarters but the sprint has had its share of dents and bruises. They used orange paint to highlight the trouble spots.
from what I understand if you want it done right from paint to upholstery those are the folks to take your car to. so your well on the way to a beautiful car. are you going to repaint it with the original sprint scheme?
Original paint scheme, Wimbledon white and grabber blue. Only changes to the exterior will be paint on the hood instead of a decal, no antennae or emblems on the fender. I am also thinking of taking all the trim around the doors.
sounds great. why remove the trim and emblems? have you gave any thought to having the emblems powder coated white and putting them on in the blue painted part? that would be nice I think. I like the idea of removing all of the trim it gives the car a much cleaner look
